According to Nintendo of Japan’s official website, the Wii U eShop will have playable demos and HD video features. (Nintendo, Wii U)

It will? That is a good step to compete with Xbox Live in my opinion.

That is great news. Now Nintendo users can finally try out games without having to just dive in and hope for the best.

On a side note, I was over at my local Future Shop at lunch picking up a cell phone screen protector, and they had a Wii U set up to the side of the gaming area. Nobody was around it, so I immediately went over and picked up the gamepad. My first observation, the thing weighs next to nothing. I could barely tell the difference between holding that and a wireless Xbox 360 controller. I flipped through the menu a bit, but Rayman Legends was the only game you can actually play.

That game is amazing, it is beautiful to look at, and it plays really fun. Even though the demo is a single player game, it gets you to use the gamepad screen quite often. I was a little confused at which screen to look at, but I got used to it. It started out having me look at the TV screen while the gamepad showed some images of what looked like different levels. Then at one point in the level, the game switches and now you are using the touch screen to do everything while the on screen character is computer controlled and moves on his own. The transition was awesome, and I am really looking forward to this game when it comes out next year.

I almost made it to launch without handling a Wii U and it could have been a complete surprise come Sunday, but oh well, I'll still be happy when I get to hold the controller again.

The 3DS and everything else has demos. Don't know why the Wii U wouldn't.

Not trolling...but Nintendo is so damn obscure with their decisions. Hell I would find it more logical for them to add some weird feature that only works in Japan than to bring Demos.

Because remember their silly philosophy? A demo doesn't give enough feel for a game? Or something like that they spouted back in 2006.

( I'm too lazy but you can look it up ).

I love Nintendo ( their games ) but I've given up hope for Nintendo to make any decent decision. I'm damn surprised in fact they gave us Demos.

Even the Wii (WiiWare) and DS (Nintendo Channel) had demos in some form, although fairly limited. It would be absurd if the Wii U didn't.
