Forgotten Games: MAG

FruityGamers:
How The Massive Action Game Ended Up Being The Massive Flop

The Massive Action Game, or MAG, was released back in 2010. PS3 fans were ready and couldn't wait to get their hands on the FPS shooter that would allow 256 players to be on large-scale battlefields at once, simultaneously. It was going to be great.

According to vg chartz it sold 1.26 million copies which is probably 2million coming from them, either way a new exclusive ip selling that much with no advertising like usual from sony, no single player campaign and online only is nowhere near a massive flop.

I enjoyed the game more than kz3 and bf3, much more team work and i would say more fun, when the enemy took points A and B your team had to retreat to defend C and that's when the enemy could parachute in and boy was it funny seeing them dodge sniper fire while coming in lol, just so many players anybody even the worst players could get lots kills.

Anyway i have no idea why it didn't hit the big time, the game worked, less lag if any compared to other games, few bugs and i look forward (i hope)to MAG 2 next gen.

MAG was a great game and shame on whoever is Disagreeing. THe game had a lot of strong points and was alot of fun with a good group. MAG had very few bugs very little lag and ran with hella people.

MAG is excellent; this game was the only game that ran 256 people with modern graphics before PC games did, and when mods tried, they only got to 128 with massive lag with Valve's engine; they broke it in 2011 with Battlefield 3, but the lag is worse than MAG, of course.

But it proved one thing: That this gen is way more powerful than last gen, and not too far behind the PC in a lot of aspects, because if it were so, then it shouldn't have took the release of Battlefield 3 for the 256 player breakthrough.

At any rate, not only is MAG not a flop, that's the only game I've played that improved my FPS skills on both PC and console shooters.

I still play MAG to this day, and got a platinum out of it, too.

Sure the servers aren't as full, but like Razor said, I hope they make MAG 2; because if they do, I'm getting it.

This article really needs to do research before wrongfully tagging games.

i love MAG. i had more fun with MAG then any other game this gen. FYI why is Blk Ops using MAG points kit system in their game? MAG points kit system adds layers to a game. this proves that MAG had some very good gameplay elements. MAG was not a flop in my mind but you have your own point of view.

MAG is great. I was playing the other day and was thinking what a shame it got such a bad rap. Even so, it still did well for a new IP that's online only. It did well enough to justify a sequel so I hope there eventually is one, if not on PS3 then PS4. There's still nothing else like it on consoles. Though I liked the DLC modes, they should have added more maps instead. A snowy area, desert area (like that one DLC level), and maybe an ocean level with islands and boats instead of the APCs. They could also let the 2nd and 3rd place factions unite against the dominant one, or add another faction and have 2 allies vs 2 allies.

Glad it said "massive flop" before I linked to the article... saved me a min or 2 of wasted reading. I think it's funny that somebody wasted time to rag on a old game that wasn't a flop by any means as mentioned above. Anywayz...

Anyone who reads this comment should go to their nearest used game store & give MAG a shot. Here's why...

1. Cost less than $10 used, you could trade a PS2!? game in and get MAG free!!!

2. Servers are still running. Not hard to get a 128 player game going on weekends, 64 player games are going on with hardly any wait time all day, til the servers are turned off.

3. Nobody knows when the servers will be turned off but it probably won't be anytime soon because the game still costs $30 @ PS store!? (Don't buy it there fool! Get the disc! See #1...)

3. Proximity chat! Any teammate or enemy near your character can hear you! (THIS is what every online FPS should have IMO!) Tell that enemy with bad aim why you're T-bagging him, WHILE you're T-bagging him!

I could go on & on... It's only average graphics wise, but lots of FPS action for very little money. Aiming is great but so is everyone else's so it while take a bit of patience will be worth it. Fast paced with the ability for HUGE killstreaks. How couldn't you like that!?
