UK media business Future has confirmed the closure of Xbox World and PSM3 magazines in the UK, as it continues its focus on digital growth.
It is sad that through technology we effectively end printed media. The last game guide I bought was kh2 and that was because it was going cheap, everything is free online.
This makes me sad for games journalism. I've been subscribed to PSM3 for years and they are really cool people with a well written, well researched and honest magazine. Maybe they will continue the podcasts just as buddies on the side not under PSM3? :/ Either way, more often than not, written games journalism just has more professionalism and integrity over random guys on the internet with a small site that released sensational headlines for hits. Hope not to see any more people put out of doing good jobs to these pseudo online "journalists" :(
Now less trees will be brutally murdered.
Fantastic news for trees.
Shame ... must grab a copy of each.
Too bad. Future are closing most of it's console magazines it seems. I subscribed to PSM3 for a couple of years, they had a great writing staff. Kept subscribing even though I got the latest news here. Might as well get the last issue...
Another Sad day at Future but im sure they will find away to make money to keep gamers informed.
I remember when they did Amiga Format when I was a kid and I loved getting the mag and when it closed down in 2000 I was gutted.
I just hope that the people behind the magazines that are being closed down walk into other jobs.
I used to love psm back in the ps2 days. Sadly there just is very little reason to buy gaming magazines these days.
Why would anyone wait up to 30 days to obtain their gaming news? Gaming more so than other sources of entertainment is very time sensitive. To have to wait 30 days between each print volume is an ETERNITY in the gaming world. Gamers are far more technology oriented. By the time the magazine arrived all of the 'breaking news' had already been discovered elsewhere.
So that leaves OXM as the only active magazine left, right?
