Sadly Nintendo has confirmed that users won’t be able to use the Wii U video chat feature while playing Wii U games.
Well that sucks, I was hoping that would be a thing.
Well Nintendo is planning to release a software patch that will add this as a feature but it just won't be done in time for launch.
Ah okay, well that's good to hear.
''Well Nintendo is planning to release a software patch that will add this as a feature but it just won't be done in time for launch.'' i also read that nintendo is working on a patch so that the wii u will utilise 1600mbs of ram for games and the rest for the OS . wii u is weak and even the ps3 is better than it imo. i cant wait for next gen systems
@ Akuma. I read that the patch would have the Wii U use 1603mb of ram instead of 1600. My source might be older though.
nah...useless feature anyway!
@badz149 It's not entirely a useless feature. What about a game like ZombieU playing in co-op and watching your friend squirm and react while playing?
@Akuma, You say PS3 is better than the Wii U yet earlier in your comment you state Nintendo are working to utilise 1600mbs of ram for games which is over three times as much as PS3. Your contradiction stops me from being able to take you seriously.
Patch is good news... I assume the Wii U will have several new features added over its life cycle, just like other consoles have had. BTW: The pic chosen for the story made me laugh.
But why would I want to video chat while playing a game? Wouldn't that be distracting?
Yes, it's very distracting. lol
I agree but adding video of your mates when playing them on a game when you beat them can be quite funny abit like they did with StarFox 3DS.
I will not miss it though as ive never had it on a home console..
If you're not playing a fps online, I don't see how pausing a game would be distracting. Also, just like in ps3 video chat, you can either use video or not, so having cross game video/voice chat would be amazing. If you don't want it, then shut up about it and go on with your life.
While playing a game I don't want anyone looking at me while I make my funny faces at bosses or obstacles that are frustrating me. This is bummer, but J didn't expect the Wii U to do that. I just happy I can game and browser the web without losing my progress or having to quit the game answer have to wait for it to load again.
I do a lot of screaming and head shaking when i play, so this is good for me. Sorry for the other people.
Sounds like you may have turrets syndrome.
i dont see the point in seeing the people you are playing against. i mean, cod would turn into a dating forum. with people gathering around to check eachother out. people would only fight over the hot chick. plus i imagine it would be a security nightmare for nintendo. i can imagine it now, parents freaking out their 11 year old is having video chats with a 45year old man in cod.
.... So no in game cross chat.. no video calling... WTF does this thing actually do on a social stand point?
Actually there is in-game cross chat. It's just at the discretion of the developers.
That isnt IGC thats just normal game chat like the PS3 has.
Sorry. I suppose you were using strange terminology. I think you mean cross chat or cross party chat? Nintendo did say they wanted to patch Wii U Chat to make it so you can accept calls during games, if that helps at all.
It's something they could easily add later down the line.
This needs to be clarified further. By "during" do you mean simultaneously? I never expected that to be a feature. I expected to be able to pause my game, go to miiverse, etc., engage in video chat in that fashion. Is there a difference between the two?
