RAGE May Have Underwhelmed, But Its Characters Were Gorgeous

Kotaku - id's RAGE may have its fans—and I'm one of them—but even they'd admit it never really hit the heights it could, or given the developer's pedigree perhaps should have hit.

Two two things I liked best about the game were its sky (seriously, it's one of the best in video game history) and its characters, which aside from a few ill-attired ladies, was a memorable cast of post-apocalyptic bandits, scientists and fat guys. (PC, PS3, Rage, Xbox 360)

it was gorgeous but it was lifeless. Environments were static so it came at a cost.

And the fact the multiplayer was nothing but combat racing was a let down. An id game with no competitive FPS multiplayer? Twas "Doomed" to fail.

Not to mention its unforgivable texture pop issues

True, got it for PC here and it was abut distracting at times (wide open areas and quick turns). Still, it is a lot better now than at launch but might also be due to my upgraded PC so not sure.

I never really minded the texture pop in issues. Any time there was texture pop in, it would always fix itself within like 3 seconds.

It never took long for me either, but it was still annoying as wasn't expecting it to be as bad as it was at launch. Normal playing wasn't an issue just if you quick turned too fast ;). I'm easily distracted though even if very forgiving.

That's the only way they got it to run 60fps is to load only the textures that you are currently looking at. I'd prefer 30fps without texture pop=up issues.

So? Do you remember any of them, who they were or what they did in the game? I sure didn't. The game was pretty, maybe (I played it on PC and those ugly textures just ruined the whole visual experience for me) but the rest was utter bullshit (apart from the guns and the shooting which, lets be honest, is something they are best at). So, having "gorgeous" character in a bland, uninspired, and downright boring game with horrendous story and character involvement is just... silly.

did they ever fix the pop in issues for the ps3? im thinking of picking this up now
shysun  +   217d ago
Most games have that issue, its not a game breaker! For the price of the game now just pick it up or rent it for the weekend. It's worth a play through.

The characters looked good and were animated extremely well, too bad the rest of the game didn't reach that kind of quality.

The game was cool. I got the Platnimum for it.
