7 things that don't make sense to American gamers (but have good explanations)

GR writes:

One of the things we love most about games is their ability to appeal to people of all ages and backgrounds. Back in our youth, we were playing Super Mario Bros. at the same time as people all over the world, sharing the same experience. However, not every design choice is universal--and these days, there are more than a few confusing elements in games that are lost on American gamers. But after spending some time in Japan, they started making a lot more sense to us.

Don’t understand some obtuse feature in a game? Perhaps we can clear that up for you. (3DS, Monster Hunter, PS Vita, PS3, PSP, Resident Evil, Super Mario 3D Land, Super Mario Galaxy, Wii, Xbox 360)

What I don't understand is why this short feature is 9 pages long. Is there a good explanation for that?

The kind of article that makes Americans look ignorant.

The soccer/football one is the oldest joke in the book.

My wife loves soccer, I think its boring. What's wrong with that? Why does that make Americans look ignorant? I know the rules and how its played, I just don't like it.

because it's called football not soccer everywhere else in the world?

Just because it's called something different elsewhere doesn't make me ignorant. I know it's called football world round, but in the US it's called soccer. Colloquialisms don't make one ignorant. FYI ignorance is the lack of knowledge, you could call me stupid or some other derogatory name. I can deal with that, this is the internet. Ignorant, on the other hand, I am not.

Actually the vita is outselling PSP in most regions except Japan, thought not grand numbers as the 3DS.

The part about Street Pass is spot on. I spent three weeks in Japan and I completed all the puzzles before the end of the second week.

I was already aware of these things
