Stacking Wii U Against the Competition

IGN - Curious how Wii U and its controllers physically line up against their counterparts? We compare them. (Wii U)

Yeah wii U stacks up fine, personally I am looking forward to an HD Zelda game.

I feel when the new sony and MS consoles come out the wii u will start lagging behind once devs have got to grips with the console but seriously looking at zombie it wont be a problem to me that the wii u as some people say will be inferior.

"When the new MS and Sony consoles come out, the Wii U will be lagging behind..."
Maybe, though not as bad as the Wii lagged compared to the competition (though the Wii has the most consoles sold in the 7th generation, and has the highest rated exclusives [Super Mario 1/2]).

If the Wii U can obtain better third party support than the Wii was supplied with, then it won't be an issue for Nintendo. The online system for the Wii U is a lot better than the Wii's - it's even up to par (probably even further) with their competitors offerings.

"Hardcore gamers" wanted an HD capable, non-friendcodes sharing online service, with decently supported 3rd party titles, for the next Nintendo system.

I have a hard time believing that the Wii U will be obsolete once the other competing consoles launch down the road.

Dude, don't worry about this guy, the Wii U will be the PS2 of this gen.
Sgt_Slaughter  +   771d ago
...Nothing will ever reach the enormous numbers of the PS2. Maybe Wii numbers but that's about it. (Even that was a shock.)

It will be interesting what Microsoft and Sony bring. The Wii U will have at least a year ahead of them with software, so by then the Wii U line-up will be much more than it is now. Nintendo needs to concentrate on getting Wii U functionality into their games and differentiate themselves from the others. They won't be able to compete on hardware specs.

Well consoles get better over time as developers get to grips with them and by the time the new Sony and MS consoles arrive on the scene Wii U will probably be almost 2 years old. By that time the Wii U will probably be on par with PS4/Nextbox when they're first released and for at least a year after. Obviously after that it'll start to show it's age but even then it won't be as big a difference as with the 7th gen consoles. It's hard to believe in the next few weeks 7th gen consoles will be officially last gen.

Pii-U, Nintendo can keep their kiddie franchises and 3rd party ports (which are already on ps3/360). I'll have too many games to play on my current system until ps4/720 releases.

An HD wii with graphics comparable to current gen, a gimmicky controller, and an untested network is not enough. Nintendo gives the bare minimum in "improvements" and expects you to throw money at them based solely on nostalgia factor. A nostalgia that is long gone. The SNES days are gone. They lost the magic as far as i'm concerned. It is NO threat to sony or MS when it comes to trying to lure away customers from those other console makers. Fact.

So I'm assuming you're decided then?
I can't help but feel that there's nothing Nintendo can do to persuade you otherwise.

Please explain to me what you consider an adult game. Please do.
yeah it does stack up well against ps3. ps4 though game over. Unless the casuals buy wiiU it won't be as successful as wii.

The video isn't working for me. Are they comparing it to PS3/360 or PS4/720?
------------------

@2.1 -- I know, i just thought they were comparing it to the rumored specs.

PS4/720 doesn't even exist yet...thye are comparing it with the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The SIZES, not SPECS

Wii u will do great, until Microsoft slaps them in the face with a new Xbox. I put money on it.
Stroke666  +   771d ago
how much you wanna bet? I am not discounting ms, i'm sure nextbox will be great however they will not be able to take nintendos shine. i think nintendo played their cards right. between the consoles theirs will have made the biggest technical leap i believe, take into account that we know next to nothing about whats in store for the next msony ventures. but its hard to imagine they will vastly surpass their predecessors. especially not by 6th-7th gen or wii-wii u.
Donnieboi  +   771d ago
Both will bow to Sony

Alot of hidden cost
This thing gets pretty costly after adding all the stuff you need to buy to play. I might get one of these later when Metroid and Zelda come out but for now they have the same games as the other consoles and zombie u is not worth 500 buck to play.. you nintendo fan-boys enjoy your console,500 buck thats alot of games for my PS3 & 360
Stroke666  +   771d ago
dude when you ps3 and 380 came out they were 500- 600 bucks wwithout a game or extra controller.
konnerbllb  +   771d ago
360 was 299 and 399 between acrade and pro. Sony was the one with ridiculous prices.
Stroke666  +   770d ago
@Konnerbllb...the core system had no hard drive and was price the same as wii u's basic system which has 8gb of memory, does it really count. and the pro/premium system had a 20gb hdd at 399 and no one complained, in comparison to wii u premium system which has 32gb of memory at 349 and now its like "its sooooooo expensive they should throw in a tb of memory". I'm just saying when it comes to nintendo people begin to judge awfully harsh. Even when they are being more than reasonable
ronin4life  +   771d ago
What hidden costs?

All you need are the console and some launch games. All Wii hardware is compatible, and most peipke wanting to have a more complete setup have a Wii and several accessories for it.
mcbrid55  +   771d ago
I'm confused. What exactly are the extra costs?
millzy102  +   770d ago
its not 40 pound for online capabilities that you need to pay for even just to watch netflix. its not 120 pounds more.you need for proprietary Hdd. and its not a repair bill for over heating which I had to fork out 5 times before I stoped playing 360. so Xbox fan boys can stfu. I've got a ps3, psvita Wii and 3ds from this gen and that's all I need I've preordered Wii u and getting ps4 (depending on price) and if I had the money I would buy a 720 to take a shit on it and send it back to Microsoft.

How many think that Microsoft or Soy will flat out copy the Nintendo controller design?
