God of War: Ascension - Exclusive footage tonight, this is what I hope to see

SchollA from Console ControllUs pronounced control-us writes:

I recently released some news that Geoff Keighley will be headed down to Sony Santa Monica Studios to cover exclusive footage of God of War: Ascension, which actually happens tonight you can read all about it here including the channel and time you can catch it.

Here's some things I hope to see (or not to see) tonight: (God of War: Ascension, PS3)

i think the focus on showing MP gameplay has killed some of the buzz for this game.

Or it can work in their favor. For starters, the media unanimously believed that they were watching a "single" player in the original preview. This is a very big testament to how much detail SSM is placing in this game. Let us not forget how underwhelming the E3 2009 showing was. Likewise, history is repeating itself again.

Deliberately under-hyping the game and then having everyone chase a red herring only to find out the meat of the game (which is the single player) may actually wow the gaming masses back when GT released the GAIA sequence in 2010.

I'm quite happy for the new footage to be multiplayer. The one thing I was disappointed about with the last game was the fact that I'd seen so many of the big set pieces before I played it. My willpower is weak when faced with a one click option.

I fully agree. What I should have done was go on a GOW III self imposed PR Embargo back then. By the time I got to sit down and play the game so many great moments were kinda ruined. I for one would like to only talk about the MP. Sony Santa Monica has proven over the course of three games that they know how to make an awesome SP for GOW. The MP is the new kid on the block so they got a lot to prove in that area. Frankly I think Sony Santa Monica deserves the chance to prove themselves. I remember how most were skeptic about the MP in Assassin's Creed Brother and eventually people came around.

People deserves to be skeptic but don't deny it before trying it.

Yeah, we know with certainty that the singleplayer game is going to look and play wonderfully. The one thing we can't know, and could never be demonstrated in single player previews, is what the story is like, so there is very little point in seeing any more big set pieces. However, as you rightly pointed out, Santa Monica DO need to prove their credentials when it comes to online play. Singleplayer is a given so hide it from my hungry eyes!

Mmm. I for one have been fairly impressed by the MP footage. Notably the "set piece" part when they have to take down the one-eyed monster, as they throw spears into his eye and crack his jaw and all that.

That moment had me literally cringing, I was f**king shocked man. Truly, truly. Not many games have made me do that, if ever. It was so surreal and hyperreal.

Nobody forced you to watch the early footage. I enjoyed every second a god of war 3 twice.

Its funny how some minor things can cause hysteria, in this case its Santa Monica, they dont do bad games...

on the other hand, some MAJOR as hell flaws (Darksiders 2) causes ppl to be even more blind to them...

PS. PPL claim that they love sony for thier experiments and investments in new ips, new play type. Multi in GOW is that kind of experiment... so.... please be quiet and polite, no one forces you to buy this game...

It's interesting really, how people complain about the game industry being stagnant, they praise Sony for branching out, everyone cried foul with Uncharted going multiplayer with 2 until they played it, and the same thing is here again.

We should be reminded that the preview unveiling back in April this year largely fooled everyone into believing they were watching SINGLEPLAYER footage. The type of graphics and scale and polish you come to associate with Santa Monica and the God Of War experience on PS3, was convincingly matched on a multiplayer engine.

That should tell you how far the team has advanced with their game engine, the single player footage greatly exceeds God of War 3, while the multiplayer footage, matched the best looking parts of GoW3.

Everyone should just take a chill pill, and just wait to play what will be The most comprehensive full fledged GOW yet. It's campaign is already quoted to be longer than GoW3 and 2. Many believed the games length would suffer because of multiplayer! Todd Pappy debunked that.

Bring on GoW:A

I caught a little bit of the gameplay footage last night on Spike...was disappointed it was more multiplayer stuff. I guess Sony Santa Monica wants to keep showing Multiplayer footage to send the message that they are serious about the multiplayer component and it's not just tacked on, but the meat and bones of God of War has ALWAYS been the single player, and I imagine most people will be playing it for for the Single Player anyway.

More Single player details/footage please.
