GamesRadar - Examine each version of Counter-Strike and you'll find that not a whole lot has changed since the game's inception as a mod for Half-Life back in 2000. Sure, things like hit boxes, recoil, and aesthetics vary between 1.6, Source, and Global Offensive--but the core, minimalistic gunplay remains intact. And that's one of the beautiful things about this hardcore, competitive shooter: It hasn't changed much in over a decade because it doesn't need to, making it one of our top 100 games of all time.
(yeh I know Quake and Unreal came out first and are great competitive games played by PRO Gamers but CS did so much more for the FPS genre)
It's the game that really put competitive online Gaming on the map! Battlefield, Call Of Duty, Halo, etc. all owe it to CS and what it brought to the Gamers and industry as a whole.
Hell at any time you can always find 50K Gamers playing CS 1.6 or CS:S online and the game is 13 years old! (Name a game with this large a community that is over 13 years old....)
So yeh i would put CS in my "Greatest Games ever" list cause it's the shooter that really brought so many Gamers together Online and ALL the "Modern Warfare" shooters of today and hell even "Futuristic Shooters" have CS to thank!
'Humiliation!' LOL
The daddy of online shooters. Still a blast now many years later.
I'd still be playing 1.5 if they didn't shut the WON servers down... my god has it been 10 years already :'(
