Will PlayStation All-Stars Smash the Competition?

GI writes: Sony recently released a PS3 beta of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale to PlayStation Plus subscribers in the US on Oct. 16. All PlayStation Vita users could also download the beta. As a Cross-Play title, it was important for Sony and SuperBot Entertainment to have both consoles test the game’s multiplayer component. The beta was available until Oct. 30 and a month before the title’s Nov. 20 release date. The beta was meant to help SuperBot Entertainment load test the game’s servers before its release. Since the beta acts as a way to see how the servers will handle the player load, that means that the game is in its final build. Thus, the way the game plays currently is indicative of how the controls and mechanics will work on its retail release. With that in mind, it is possible to decide whether Sony’s mascot brawler will be worth picking up this Holiday season.

I think people should just let it be a good game on its own instead of constantly comparing to others and thinking that it has to smash the competition to succeed.

I really hope the game does well both commercially and critically. I don't see this game as being made to take Smash Bros down. Smash has too big a fanbase to die off anyway. Both games can coexist. People need to grow up.

Critically, almost everyone is enjoying the Beta. Critics, the one's that are not focusing on whether it's a clone or not, say that it's fun and that it's constantly improving with each build.

Plus, it's getting plenty of marketing.

Not only is this a terribly written article, the logic used is absolutely moronic. A quick glance at newer public videos clearly show that the beta was NOT the final build, and the beta's sole purpose was to stress test their servers. How in the world someone would think that six characters and 2 levels is indicative of the final game's balance issues is laughable.

Im a huge playstation fan, I like Sony more than nintendo, but I doubt all stars will destroy smash, now sells wise this game may not sell well, and needs why I believe that, halo 4, wii u love it or hate it its a new system and people will buy it, and the inevitable call of duty love it or hate it you have to admit it sells like hotcakes.

There is one series of games that is in the same realm as this game and that is Smash Brothers and I don't see this game touching it.

If Smash brothers on Average between games is a 92/100 then PS-All Stars will be probably a 85/100.

A nice , solid , good quality game that features characters who are the " Mario & Link " of the Playstation.

Does it really matter? I hear people hating on it for being a "clone", but why hate on it for not being as good as the premier series in the genre that has already seen 3 game releases? It will be fun and if you're into PlayStation there's a good chance you'll like it and have lots of fun.

If they copied smash then yes but since the just couldn't swallow their pride and HAD TO make something absurdly different, so different that many gamers won't like it after playing it their first time, then no. It will not smash anything with the exception of OUR DREAMS.

Yes developers care more about their pride than their fans.

I think killing with supers is like the best thing ever, seriously, its so much fun... everytime someone does a super, I JUMP UP infront of my screen either when I kill somebody or somebody is trying to kill me... dude, the incusion of THAT feature is KILLER! its just genius

smashing the competition is its ambitions. after playing the downloadable beta, I felt like this game didnt really need to imitate ssb to be a good game! I feel like this game shouldn't be what the media wants it to be, but a game the developers want it it to be.

To me it doesn't matter. Smash is good, Allstars is ( from the beta) good. There's no such thing as clones of a game.... Just Type. This falls in the mascot fighting category. Enjoy it or don't buy. Simple , all this clone this, copy that is getting old. This game will have a following just like cod & bf or Mario & lbp or uncharted & tomb raider ...... I can go for days.(personally I choose to play them all) This is nothin new... None of the games I mentioned is a cheap imitation. Is uncharted a cheap imitation of tomb raider? Lbp a cheap imitation of Mario? I don't think so, they are just in the same genre. Lbp & Mario= platforming . tomb raider & uncharted = adventure. Smash bros & Allstars = fighting. Simple really..... Now back to watching naruto.

I'm super confident that Allstars will be at Evolution, the world's biggest fighting game tournament in the world. That right there will make it official that the game will smash the competition.
