There is not one but two secret Xbox cats that Microsoft has kept in the bag. Currently there are three more Xbox 360 motherboards in the works right now. They are.. dun dun dun.. Jasper, Opus and Valhalla.
He says the FALCON is the 65nm CPU which is wrong its the 65nm GPU...However the other information he speaks of is interesting especially the superchip with gpu and cpu on one die i assume.
No Falcon is the motherboard with a 65nm CPU and 90nm GPU: "Starting at the end of September, the newest systems were shipped with the new "Falcon" motherboard. This motherboard includes the new 65-nm CPUs, making them quieter and cooler than the older systems." http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
Both wrong. The GPU also became smaller. Although it isn't 65nm like the CPU if I'm right, something around 80nm or so. But it IS smaller then the old GPU. CPU is 65nm for sure indeed
hmmm wonder if this means new sku. Considering the flak fired by 360 owners nit picking at ps3 over multiple sku it will be funny to see them react over the multiple sku issue
wow sonarus that was a kewl comment! do it again!
hasn't confused me like Sony have.
not yet but its coming!
Does Jasper feature internal Wifi?
Valhalla? As in a Viking Funeral where they set the thing out to sea on fire. Thats no very encouraging. Why not just call it the Deathbox. And now they're even admitting the falcon isnt good enough. Everyone out there searching for falcon units and they are already about to be superseceded. But surely the most disturbing thing. "My birthday is in October and I am probably going to upgrade to a Jasper Xbox 360 if my Xenon lasts that long." I hate how accepting the xbox crowd is that their console is a disposable item. When you bought a console before you wouldn't think of getting another one til the next generation, now thanks to XB its accepted that you change them like underpants. Sad.
What about an Xbox 360 codename "reliable".
But very true
ha ha good one!
hahahahaha good start:P
you remind me of HD-DVD
I'm still having the same disc read error that it had before they claimed to have fixed it.
I'm getting very close to buying a PS3.
Dude, I dont know anyone with a PS3 whose regretted it. The problem with sticking with unreliable hardware is you keep buying games and then its not the console thats so valuable but your library. You're trapped into getting a new one if it breaks because you've spent so mush on games. I have all the consoles, but thats why I get multiplat games on PS3, so when my 3rd Xbox does die again, most my games will be on the PS3 and I wont be forced into getting another XBox. Of course I still can if they're cheap enough by then, but at least I have the choice.
Wow bathyj, this is uncanny for me. I also get all the multiplatform games on the PS3 for the same reason. My 360 broke twice already so I am on my 3rd repaired\refurbished unit. I was reading your comment and it was like reading something I would type :-)
I get multiplats on for my PS3 as well. My 360 has died on me once and I'm afraid it will die again so I don't buy multiplats for it. I only have 2 games for my 360 and those are Gears and Halo 3. MS really needs to fix this RROD issue.
"The problem with sticking with unreliable hardware is you keep buying games and then its not the console thats so valuable but your library." I know exactly what you mean... I remember owning 2 PS1 and 3 PS2... you guys remember the drive problem with the PS1s? had to put it upside down? and the PS2... eventually Sony fixed it... and people forgot all about it... the only thing worst than RROD is that at least microsoft is convering the cost of reparing... Sony did not... you only got the standard warranty with the PS1 and PS2... I had to pay for all my consoles again... ohh and I've lucky I guess never had a problem with RROD on any of my 3 xbox 360...
youre in a small minority buddy. I had a FEW friends who had ps1 problems, even fewer with the PS2. Those failures don't even compare with the magnitude of RROD. And don't jump on M$ sack too quickly...they only offered their repair program after they were threatened with a class action lawsuit. Still no reconciliation for all the people with the scratched discs either. On top of all that, the repairs made aren't even viable a high percentage of the time.
lol yeah i remember the upside down ps1 trick...luckily a friend of mine knew the problem was from the PS1 lens being old and he replaced it. The PS2 I never had any problems with...there was the "disc read error" at the beginning when they printed games on the blue discs but that rarely happened, and that stopped once they started using DVDs for their games, but those problems never made the system unplayable, there was always a way to fix around it thanks for the memories bladestar
I can't see them getting as far as valhalla since the Xbox 720 will be released next year. So by late 2010 the Xbox 360 will likely be abandoned by M$.
bathyj whats your gamer tag for these 3 xbox's you say broke, I wanna compare games with you!! mine is in my bio, let compare!!
i was thinking of asking bladestar the same thing. or are you assuming he is telling the truth and bathyj is lying?
sorry about behaving in a non-mature fashion. But I need to point out that asking a gamer for his tag so you can compare games is really, really lame. I would call it "homosexual", but I don't feel the need to offend the gay community like that.
The most interesting point is : "The Opus project is a "Falcon" generation motherboard designed to fit in a Xenon case. You can expect an 90 nm GPU but a 65 nm CPU. Opus solves a major hardware recycling and inventory problem since Microsoft currently has millions of used Xenon cases from RRODed dead systems and this lets them use most of the good parts from the millions of dead Xenons but with a newer tested more reliable motherboard." Translation: Pay full price for used hardware relabeled as new hardware If this was a car you would buy a brand new car but the dealer would have put in the engine of a used car he got back defective. And he would get sued for fraud. But it seems in the electronics business you can get away with all kind of BS tactics like selling used goods as new.
"I would trust an Opus Xbox much more than a "zombie repaired" Xenon since you are getting a fresh motherboard. These will probably never be boxed and sold directly to the public in stores so the only way to get an Opus motherboard is to turn in a RRODed dead Xenon in late 2008 and you might get one returned. Opus is the "Zombie Xbox" killer. It's the recycle repair special and is the sort of repair and refurbished Xbox 360 that they should have had done in the first place." ^^^ Looks like they'll be sending back Opus 360's to those who have to go thru repairs (which will probably be every 360 owner) instead of boxing them up and selling them in retail stores
Whoa thanks for the translation. I didn't even notice that when I first glance through it. So MS using Recycled xbox 360s to make new 360s....wow they are such great environmentalist recycling...
So how many versions will there be of this xbox 360??
I am getting confused in my old age - why dont Microsoft just release 1 console with HDMI, Wifi, HD it would make things alot easier.
Instead theres a version with wifi but no HD but theres another with wifi and HDMI but no HD, unless you get the elite which has HDMI, HD and a wifi adapter included but if you want just get the cheap model with none of these but you can buy them seperately... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzz
All three models have HDMI. None of them have an Hd drive or wifi(wifi should be included)The only difference between the versions is the hard drive and the color...
P4KY you said "6 - I've just had my fourth repaired. Or so MS say.
I'm still having the same disc read error that it had before they claimed to have fixed it.
I'm getting very close to buying a PS3."
You had the same problem 4 times? Sorry mate but I don't believe you.
I don't know about having the "same" problems, but i'm sending my 3rd 360 off to Microsoft... first problem was RROD, 2nd problem was disc read errors (dvd drive wouldn't spin), and now my 3rd 360 is RRODing again.. hopefully things are different this time since they asked me to send both my xbox360 & power brick.
The gamerzone has turned into the openzone, at first the rules were strict, but now i think the moderators don't care. I've seen worse in this zone. But i never get why people would rather buy the multi-plat for the PS3 over the 360. In my case, i have a gold memborship, so it's beneficial if i buy my multi-plat titles for the 360 over the PS3 (when i get mines, but they gotta stop shuffling around the BC version of the PS3 and bundle in the DualShock 3 before i'll buy), atleast that makes sense to me. I mean PS3 has some great exclusives coming, but multi-plat titles have always performed better on 360 except for i think 3 games now, but even in those the 360 versions in my opinion did better.
I don't know, maybe it's just me, but common sense is common sense. All 360 games have unified online capabilities, chat, messaging, and etc. That's one huge reason, plus it has the more robust online experience because you rarely run into anyone without a headset. It just makes more sense to me.
names to their pet projects, its stupid. They aren't the government and the names are lame.
falcons, jasper, valhalla, opus? simple solution ms: figure out the hardware BEFORE you introduce it to the consumers. it's clear with all these multiple motherboards that ms doesn't have a clear idea of why their hardware has a higher than average failure rate.
i hope they're at least learning something now so their next console will be more dependable.
"Jasper is very real and they are testing prototypes right now. Word from Redmond is that progress on Jasper is going well and on schedule and you can expect it fall of 2008. My birthday is in October and I am probably going to upgrade to a Jasper Xbox 360 if my Xenon lasts that long."
I cant belive that someone would buy another, or wast more money 2 buy a new 360 just couse it has a new chip. thats crazy, I waited before i got my 360 with the hdmi port, if it breaks oh well, i still got my ps3. iam not wasting my hard earn money. and i bet if someone sued wal-mart or target or any other retailer for selling these faulty 360 the retailer would have but pressure on mircosoft to get the job done right the first time.
I guess you never had a PS2? I had a friend who had four break on him less then eight months apart. The 360 has a great games something the PS2 had too and the reason people kept on buying them even if they had problems.
I have two early model ps2 and they'are still working good till today. I got friends who have ps2, and none of them has one that's broken. The percent of ps2s' failure are very small that can not be compared with Xbox360.
If you're talking about library of games. We all know the Wii dont have a large library of games, but its' selling point is sky high. Well, game is not the only factor to sell the system, pal.
Let me guess, you're aroud 13 to 15 year old, right, 360_Rules ?
Microsft is LAME O
It still won't play Blu-Ray though...
u gotta be kidding me, when will they stop and just stick with the elites?
That is the one using 65nm CPU and GPU. So you can say it's going to cut down on both heat and power so you can expect to be less quite and relibily like the PS3.
If people keep bringing up the PS2 when discussing the 360 hardware issues, is it ok then if I bring up the PS2 install base when discussing 360 sales? No? Ok, then.
So if someone put up with multiple broken PS2's I guess it's okay for 360 fans to put up with their console. I guess 360 fans are copy cats, so if one 360 fan jump from a building we can expect 17 million to follow.
All of my friends that got the RROD sold their 360 when they got it back from M$ and bought a PS3...It's funny how so many people are trading their 360 and getting a PS3. Just look at ebay and see how cheap the 360's are selling.....I haven't met a PS3 that hasn't been happy with their PS3 yet...so far no regrets only game I wish was on PS3 is Gears2 because gears 1 was alot of fun. Every other 360 exclusive title just doesn't interest me
i had my 360 since launch, and its i've only ever had 1 RROD, and i've had the replacement running flawlessly since september 2006. and thats with daily use, and active downloads turned on. as per reliable hardware, everything seems fine to me, although i was amazed last week when my dreamcast fell of a shelf (about 75cm high) landed upside down on the floor and carried on playing the game like nothing had happened! now thats reliable hardware for you! they dont build 'em like thy used to eh?
funny how you mentioned you were actually still using your dreamcast instead of your xb0x. cant blame ya though!
Just want to chime in on that dreamcast comment. ..Damn that machine was sturdy as hell....
i do enjoy my xbox, and its alot of fun, it just seems that with the rise in online popularity that split screen has become somewhat neglected. dont get me wrong, playing with online mates is brilliant, but IMO nothing compares to having a few mates around, cracking open some beers and playing 4 way toy commander! :P good times!
Doing a search on the net I see that Falcon codename is for the GPU being 65nm...
valhalla? like the halo 3 map?
