The Wii U Might Be An Indie Developers Dream

After reading that Nyamyam maybe bringing Tengami to the Wii U it got Game-Modo's Richard thinking that it's interesting how Nintendo seem to be embracing the indie developer and Microsoft seem to have lost this fundamental relationship in recent times with the indie developer. Richard thinks that pulling in the indie developer opens many doors and brings in a lot of interesting content to Nintendo's Wii U store and the more of this, the better it will be in the long run.

The other advantage is Nintendo's gamepad touchscreen. Android and iOS developers will love this as it will mean they can easily port games onto the console. (Wii, Wii U)

"Android and iOS developers will love this as it will mean they can easily port games onto the console."

The touchscreen is not multi-touch, so no.

Thats what the buttons are for
Darukain  +   527d ago
Most indie games don't require a multi-touch so, i don't really see a problem.

Who is the plonker that started all this multi touch nonsence off,multi touch is a poor way to replicate the anologue sticks and extra buttons you get on a dedicated games device PERIOD its second fiddle and if your talking about a gaming device then multi touch has no PLACE.

@Shanks

I think you're confusing "games" with "apps."

Yeah, cuz games like Cut the Rope, Angry Birds, and Infinity Blade use multi-touch controls..... wait

Hopefully we get a lot of indie devs on board with making original and innovative titles ( not shovelware). Go team meat!

Im sure there will be some excellent eshop titles in the future.. The wii u is going to be a very competent system from nintendo that other devs have many options for this time around.. I would love to see a new MMO (not DQX) or RTS specifically tailored for it.. Trine 2 looks amazing on wii u & i will buy it again when i get one.. Mighty Switch Force HD looks really cool too & ill buy that again as well but damn, can i get a NEW IP that looks that great

I think someone has been targeting you with disagrees... you seem to get smashed no matter what you say. O.o;;

On the new IP front, I'm sure there will be plenty of new fresh games. I wouldn't worry about it too much. ^_^;

Because he stealth trolls! Some WiiU articles, he says if he's getting one and in others he comes out and says that he's not interested and will wait for the PS4... All I think he should do is stop wasting his and our time commenting on Nintendo related topics if he's not impressed at all.

I doubt it. The Wii U dev kit looks expensive for Indie developers. I doubt that many Indie developers could actually afford such kits.
Darukain  +   527d ago
That is one of an indie dev's problem. That's why alot of them debut on the PC and later port to console.
rainslacker  +   527d ago
The fact that they're partnering with Unity would suggest that they are going to offer a indie program similar to Microsoft's XNA or Sony's Playstation Mobile.

The term Indie is a rather broad term that encompasses many different types of developers. Some like say ThatGameCompany have more funding and exposure so can afford to put more into their games, others are smaller studios with maybe 10-12 people working on smaller games, others are maybe 1-2 people that make a simple game and release on an easily accessible market.

But as of right now there is nothing but Wii U dev kits for indie developers to buy so this article is nothing more than speculation. Things like the Ouya or PSM are considerably more indie developer friendly than the Wii U atm.

Keep the scams out of the store and we're cool.

would love it if the indies came on board, games like zenonia, epic hearts ect would be freaking awesome on the wii u gamepad, this system is going to be epic, mark my words

with a catalog like mario, zelda, metroid ect.....nintendo is poised to once again dominate the home console market, sony and ms aren't even competition, not to mention, there are going to be a TON of epic rpgs for the wii u, i can feel it!

all the haters, just keep playing your 8 year old consoles, they look and play so great//s/s//s//s/s///s/

Nintendo seems to be taking online seriously now and sees how developing a solid relationship with smaller developers can help the eShop. And it shows because you're seeing games like Two Brothers, Chasing Aurora, Little Inferno & possibly Tengami (god that music is fucking gorgeous, what else can you expect from David Wise?), games that aren't on PSN or XBL and probably won't be. Also heard Nintendo is giving developers a bigger percentage of money made on eShop games, so again, shows how Nintendo is trying to take online seriously. Good job Nintendo.

lol.l..haters are always on their job......coming from an actual developer and a few of them...the wiiu is a dream for indies and established developers and i'll go with his word that you can port all those games over quickly
