Battlefield 4: On Rumors and the Possible Return of the Commander

One long time Battlefield player's observations and analysis on the rumors which recently surfaced regarding the upcoming FPS, Battlefield 4. (Battlefield 4, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

Commander is a bad idea for the console version. It's bad enough we only have 24 players. Having two players hiding to play commander is terrible. each team would only be left one man short.

Consoles NEED more damn players. Not going to happen though because they just can't wait to release this game until next gen though. Greedy bastards.

Just because you took on the role of Commander, you were not trapped hidden away, nor were people automatically assigned to it (you actually sorta' applied for the position, and you could also vote to kick a do nothing Commander as well). You do not lose your chosen class load out, and there was nothing stopping you from going out there and taking points as well. When things got bad, I was able to juggle between helping to defend a point and also respond to demands from squad leaders. In my experience, it is definitely better to have someone watching over your back than not; having a UAV or supplies, having an air strike delivered in a zone with lots of enemy action was a great distraction; making taking points all the easier.

The other thing is, for those of us who have been playing BF2 and 2142, Commanders and their interaction with squad leaders and squads is one of the huge stand outs of the series alongside jets etc.

I agree with both of u. Next BF needs more characters for console, thats with out a doubt a given. Secondly, the integration of the Commander is welcome as well in my book. In BF 2142 and BF2, communication was *KEY* supply drops and mortar strikes were discussed amongs the squad leaders and delivered to exact locations by request. The return of this function will mean that ppl on PS3 had better get their $hlt together and get a mic or be ready to be wreaked by clans.

Change is always welcomed as long as its for the better imho. If all else fails, its back to the PC for me anyway.

I'm primarily a PC FPS gamer so I'm used to the big numbers and extra chaos. Really hope that console only folks get to experience the full (or at least an improved) character numbers as well because it really makes Battlefield "pop" as a game.

Really hoping the rumors are true this time.

I hope next gen consoles are locked in at 60fps and that there is more options for physical appearence of my character. They should add a british faction as well and I'm happy to hear 64 players will be added for nextgen consoles as well.
