PSP Emulator For Android Called PPSSPP Released, Can Run Commercial Games

Great news for Android smartphone and tablet owners, Henrik Rydgard who some of you aware with the emulating scene might known as the co-founder of Dolphin a popular GameCube and Wii emulator has released a PSP emulator for Android devices. (Android, PSP, PSP console)

Cool, I feel like PSP games would be more widely accepted on android than the actual psp. and now we wait for actual 3d games to not run at 1fps.

i would be inclined to agree except handhelds don't fare well without a physical D-pad. Strategy games, RPGS etc are fine but I imagine playing a game like Initial D on a touch screen will be painful at best.

This could be great news for OUYA....
... imagine being able to play all those PSP classics on your OUYA...

I've tried quite a few games already and the touch controls work pretty well once you get use to them. Gran Turismo 2 is a blast but looks so dated.

More widely accepted??? And what exactly are you basing that off?

Wow I'm gonna try that on my Xperia Play

Its kind of sad that Sony gave up on physical buttons after Xperia Play. This emulator probably needs beefy hardware as it becomes more and more compatible with PSP games.

PPSSPP can thus run on quite low-spec hardware, including stronger Android phones and tablets, as long as there’s support for OpenGL ES 2.0.

Android Device Compatibility
PPSSPP should work on all modern Android devices. It's been confirmed to run on the following:

Nexus One (the slow GPU will probably be a problem later)
Nexus S
Nexus 7
Galaxy Nexus
Galaxy S2
Galaxy S3
Xperia Play
Asus Transformer
Ainol Novo7 Advanced II

I still have my Xperia Play, but I ordered the Xperia TL yesterday. :D I'll try this out on my Play though.

why didn't sony do something like this for the xperia play?

wasted opportunity....
WeAreLegion  +   896d ago
I've owned an Xperia Play since launch.

"wasted opportunity" doesn't even begin to describe it. -_-

because unlike people that make these programs
Sony plays by the rules an has to get the A-ok from the iP holder. instead of just UMD dump all and every game online because people could care less about the iP holder's rights.

Just like Microsoft, Nintendo or pretty much every software publisher out there, unless its 1st party they just cannot go an put every game they want to online for any and everyone to just grab. knowing full well they do not have the right to do so. Its not a "wasted opportunity" if the iP holder said NO! its being respectful of the iP holder's rights to their software

Any game available for download from PSN is a game that could easily get approved for something like this.
WeAreLegion  +   896d ago
I just want to be able to play Infected again, without having to buy a PSP and physical copy of the game!!!

Can we PLEASE get it released on the PSN? Two analog sticks would be incredible with that game on the Vita.

Use the DS3 over bluetooth on the Android tablet/smartphone and there you go!

Nice to use my iCade with it to for the arcade lulz
CommonSenseGamer  +   896d ago
Agreed. Using the DS3 with your tablet makes for excellent portable gaming.
