Will Oculus Rift and Leap Motion Revolutionalize Gaming?

Chillopedia | Oculus Rift and the Leap Motion, have both been pitched to completely transform the gaming when they are released early next year. So, what's in the pipeline, and can we really expect a revolution as the hype suggests? (Leap Motion Contorller, Next-Gen, Oculus Rift, PC)

This will attract an even smaller market than 3D did. On top of that this will make a lot of people nauseous. It's very cool in concept but I don't ever see this becoming very popular.

Not me. I want full-immersion. I'm already holding back the purchase of a new 50 inch HDTV because of the Oculus Rift.

Can't wait!

If you dont see it becoming popular then howcome it raised over 2.4 million on kickstarter?

The Kickstarter program is not an indication of success or not. Tim Schafer from Double Fine had a great game called Psychonauts that I thoroughly enjoyed but it was not a commercial success. Yet his Kickstarter has done extremely well. You have many people who donate and there could also be some vested interests in this application to gaming.

The problem I see is that this device will not become mainstream and has many hurdles in front of it, mainly the disorientation gamers will get. It sounds awesome in theory but gamers can and will get nauseous. People I know get ill just playing FPS and some people get headaches watching things in 3D. When you have a virtual reality like this you no longer have any orientation around you. If you've ever been on a boat on water and get sea-sick a lot of people try to (if they are able to) look at fixed locations or the shoreline. You can't do that with this headset on.

Oculus Rift garnered $2,437,429 in funding within hours at E3 - which speaks for itself!

#1.2.1

Even when 'some people get ill by playing FPS and by watching things in 3D' FPS games and 3D movies make billions of dollars in revenue.

Nothing is universally accepted equally by everyone !!!
