Review: Assassin's Creed III [pixelrelated.net]

The largest issue with Assassin’s Creed III is just how long everything takes to get going. The game is broken into twelve “sequences” and six of them are spent with a great deal of time in tutorials. It causes the game to take hours upon hours to actually do anything interesting. When it finally gets going, it’s often times well worth it. However, this opening bogs the entire experience down heavily. (Assassin's Creed III, Xbox 360) 5/10

It is an incredible game, but the Desmond bits are a little underwhelming. The historical aspect is FANTASTIC though.

Yes, indeed, Journey is the best 2012 game.

There's nothing bad about this game. I don't know what the hell this review is all about, but this game is fantastic. Buy it.

You know, its a really good game and I am enjoying it... But on the other hand I agree on score. Wierd? Maybe, but in my honest opinions this game should have never been released in this state. It needs serious polish. Like year or so . There are so many bugs there, I have to restart missions few times already (I am currently in Sequence 10) thanks to great work in Q/A department. I am playing on X360 version, don't know if PS3 version is any better (I hope it is).

My advice: Don't wait for price cut, wait for patch...

edit: typos

Not weird at all.
I have enjoyed games that I would have given a score of 4/10. Sometimes, a game is fun, but you can see areas where it comes up short, or areas that lack polish.

That said, I am not accusing Assassin's Creed 3 of this, since I have not yet played it. I'm just saying this has happened to me before, where I'd have to give a game a low-ish numerical score, even though I enjoyed my time with it.
M1chl  +   782d ago
I totally agree, I have been in same situation many times. But thats not how the scoring system works in general, so I am glad to see, that I am not alone with this scoring system, where you can enjoy games, that you personally rated pretty badly.

it's not a 5/10 bad, but I can't say I'm having lots of fun with it... it involves a lot of (free)running. I guess it depends on if you are having fun while (free)running you'll like the game, otherwise wait for a price drop. Don't get me wrong, I think the tree climbing is fun and fresh and I enjoy doing just that. It's just that the building freerunning isn't as fun anymore and running in the streets can feel like a mess.

As the author of this review, I want to make something clear. By our standard, 5 out of 10 is NOT bad. We use a full 1 through 10 scale, with 5 being average. There are some great things AC3, but a lot of things bog the experience down from what it should be.
BlaqMagiq24  +   782d ago
Get it. Trust me you will not be disappointed.

Its incredible, just eclipsed Borderlands 2 as the best game of the year for me

Also remember, there is always that one site

whoever wrote this bullshit are not a gamer for me wtf man
this game is so amazing i mean how da fuck can u give such a game a 5 u better close ur site cuz u have really no idea wut good games are
damn it man
bubblebeam  +   782d ago
Flag the site down. Happens to all the big games.
Borderlands 2, AC3, Uncharted 3 and most recently Halo 4.

If you don't like a game, it doesn't mean it is very buggy and messy (which a 5/10 would indicate).

This score is definitely in the minority

They just want attention, don't even bother clicking on the link. I'm 20 hours in the game and still at 30% completion. This is the Assassin's Creed I've always wanted. Flawless animations (though they should update the horse animations, still a bit clunky), beautiful graphics despite the few bugs (nothing gamebreaking like some people make it sound). Definitely worth a 9 for me.

Cant trust reviewers anymore.. This is getting inconsistant reviews as well as Hello 4 on this site.. Meta critic has em both at great numbers.. Buy the game if u like the series/genre.. if not, dont.. Or just rent it first..

I just ignore all reviews now. They aren't worth anything. Some games I know I want before they're out. Others I'm not sure so I wait and see what gamers say. If most reviews say the same thing then I trust them to be right. I don't pay any attention to reviews like this one.

:D
I've only played it for tw hours a and I would give it a 9 based on production values alone
SeraphimBlade  +   782d ago
Hahaha, yeah, no.

Been playing it since Tuesday. Loving all of it. He does have a point about the slow beginning, but, trust me, the payoff for the slow start is fantastic.

Why do these a-hole reviwers tend to portray their individual frustrations on publics reviews? It's so obvious what the writer found annoying and decided to penalize the review assuming everyone would feel the same way and should know about it.
Bathyj  +   782d ago
My only real issue with the game so far is why does it still not have a crouch button?
You get busted when you could have easily ducked behind something. It is supposed to be a stealthy game afterall.

But I like the deliberate pacing at the beginning. Its like playing a prologue.

SPOILER

When you finally realise the guy you play is the main characters father as well as being the games antagonist its a pretty cool realisation.

But are there only 12 sequences? That doesnt seem right, I think I've done 5 already and only just completed my training.

Playing ACIII at the moment, it is so not a 5/10.

Assassin's Creed III is better than most games, but it's not the best Assassin's Creed game. I've just completed the story and I must say, I can't help but feeling slightly disappointed. It feel's like the game is a step back in certain aspects. Connor's story is sadly underwhelming and the ending of the game is unsatisfying after 5 years of build up.

The character's lack depth. There's only a select few character's I found interesting and they're on the Templar side.

Boston and New York are slightly boring architecturally. I wasn't expecting grand structures like in the previous games, but it's still disappointing. Every building and every map is near identical. The Frontier and the Homestead bring something new and it's a joy to free run through the trees and scale cliffs.

The game is well worth your money though as there is plenty of content to keep you preoccupied. To newbie's, the game will probably be a breath of fresh air but to present Creed fans, the game will probably feel like a missed opportunity.

Overall, I think Assassin's Creed III deserves and 8 out of 10. This 5 out of 10 review is a bit harsh.

EDIT: Also, the game is glitchy. There's a few glitches there that might impact on your enjoyment of the game. There's been times when I had to restart a checkpoint as I somehow get trapped or fall through the floor.

I'd give it a 7/10. It's a good game but it's the same tired formula and I think it's time for a change. Yes the frontier is cool and they made some solid improvements but at the end of the day I feel like I played this game 5 times already. And yes I've beaten every AC game.

This game is a 9/10 for me. I rate games on how much fun they are. I haven't enjoyed a game this much since Uncharted 3.
MasterD919  +   782d ago
A review like this boils down to an opinion with a score this low. The reviewer obviously has a distaste for this game...and it shows with 5/10. I could see a 7/10 or maybe a 6.5 (which I would still strongly disagree with) but this is just foolish.

Don't knock it 'til you tried it. This game is purely awesome and well worth AT LEAST a try. The lowest score it deserves is an 8...and even that is being harsh on it.
BrianC6234  +   782d ago
Did this guy give that low score just to get more hits? I think so. Reading what he thinks of Assassins Creed III I'd say it deserves a 7 out of 10. I'm not saying it does, just based on what he wrote. A 5 out of 10 is a horrible score. Save those for games that really suck.
KingSalahi  +   782d ago
The Game is good to me just takes 5 to 6 hours to get going. You can redbox the game to find out yourself
