They Are Building A Longhouse: Assassin's Creed III and Native American Culture

1up - Corey May is having a hard time getting through traffic, talking to me on speakerphone while the monotone voice of his GPS system barks orders in the background. As the lead writer on Ubisoft's latest entry in the Assassin's Creed series, a game which features a half-Mohawk man as its protagonist, May appears intimately aware of his obligation to respect Native American culture. (Assassin's Creed III, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

Interesting read. Shame so few will actually read it.

In my brief time with the AC3 community, I've seen more passive bigotry than I have in the last six years or so of life. So many ugly myths perpetuated by American media have taken root too deep: I actually found myself attacked after pointing out to one person that Native Americans still, in fact, existed. That they were not all dead.

And then I had to point out to another that the native population was not decreasing. Being forced into segregated communities to live in poverty and ignorance is a far cry the image most Americans like to have of the native population: weeping into the sunset and gradually fading away (so that, you know, the more cream-colored folks can "inherit" everything free-and-clear).

What kind of moron disagreed with this? It's not an opinion. Those are facts. Easily, easily verifiable facts.

lol, the same guy who disagreed with you I guess.

This is the precise reason why I think the agree/disagree system needs to be removes. It actively discourages discussion. Why try to argue or counter a post with a thought of your own when you can just click disagree? That way you can voice your indignation without actually thinking or reasoning through things--I mean, hell, if you had to do that much, you might realize you were wrong!
