An in-depth discussion with a non-gamer on Wii U's 1st commercial

"We've all seen Nintendo's first Wii U commercial in North America. We were given a tease for it yesterday, but today we got to see the entire commercial. Being the Nintendo fans that we are, we analyzed the spot to see what it did/did not show. We also are all mulling over just how good of a job the commercial does at selling Wii U.

The thing is, we're all Nintendo fans! We've known about the Wii u for months and months. We've known about multiple features and how the system works, so we're looking at this commercial in a completely different way than your average TV viewer. Some of those viewers know about gaming, others don't have any interest at all. What are those people going to think about the spot?", writes GoNintendo. (Industry, Wii U)

The argument that people don't know that the Wii U is a new system or that this commercial causes confusion is a short term problem at best. In the long run the confusion will be irrelevant imo. It's as simple as someone going to gamestop and asking for the new controller only to be told it's a new system.

The bottom line is people will always line up to play the new Mario Kart or the New Smash Bros. As long as Nintendo keeps making high quality games, with innovative, intuitive gameplay and the amazing level design we've come to love over the years, people will buy their systems.

Okay, let me explain something. Either we need to stop acting like non-gamers are just stupid or they really all are the dumbest group of people in the world. If they didn't catch onto the whole "brand new Wii U", "new way to play" then the picture clearly depicting a system that isn't the original Wii along with a picture of a game case that does not resemble a Wii case should have given it away. They couldn't have been any clearer about it without writing out "The Wii U is the next home console by Nintendo, succeeding the Nintendo Wii with a brand new controller that has a screen. It has HD graphics and tons of new games." If that's what these people need they should all be punched in the face. And then punched a second time to be sure they get the hint.
