Do we really need a points system

Darryl Linington from ITF Gaming writes: While most of us do actually purchase MS Points or PlayStation Network vouchers, in order to purchase content, the question still remains… do we actually need this service? (Club Nintendo, PC, PS3, Tag Invalid, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox LIVE)

Do WE need it? No, we've never needed it. It's a thinly veiled attempt to obfuscate the price you're really paying and the difference in prices between different regions. Also, is it just me or do the top-up amounts and the prices of games seem to be arranged in such a way as to make it virtually impossible to spend ALL your credit?

Any suggestion by the console manufacturers that this somehow benefits customers is idiotic.
