5 Dumbfounding Video Game Controversies

MMGN.com: "As a medium, video gaming has seen plenty of flack over the years, for many logical and fair reasons. Plenty of our favourite games glamorise guns, blood and violence, some still insist on pushing archaic stereotypes into the twenty-first century, and many others visualise and sexualise anything with two legs (or more) with little shame."

"For these reasons, the ire of media watchdog groups has understandably never been too far. However, there have been plenty of instances where the media and other groups have shown a face-palm-worthy lack of understanding in what they are criticising. Here are 5 of the most dumbfounding controversies stirred up by media and political groups who simply don't know what they're talking about or have actively chosen to gloss over the finer details in favour of a news story." (Culture, Industry, Mario Party 8, Mass Effect, PC, Portal 2, PS3, Resident Evil 5, Stubbs the Zombie, Wii, Xbox, Xbox 360)

The Mass Effect 'controversy' still makes me furious even now.

Over-reacting to a joke about adoption is one thing, but shamelessly lying about a game's content and completely misrepresenting it just to grab attention is vile, offensive and despicably dishonest.

It never ceases to amaze me that most of these kinds of controversies are started or stoked by people who haven't even seen the content in question.

Man, I'd heard about the terrible Fox News thing with Mass Effect but never watched it in full.... Oh dear lord I facepalmed so many times. Words cannot describe the ignorance of those people. If you're going to do reporting, at least have SOME knowledge of what you're reporting... -_-

Having knowledgeable, fact-based reporting is the antithesis of Fox News policy.
