Nintendo Gal visits a Wii U kiosk at a local Best Buy, to look at accessories and demos, and makes an unsettling discovery.
From the article: "Whether this is indicative of the actual boot times of the Wii U remains to be seen, but I seriously doubt it. Probably just a marketing SNAFU by Nintendo." ^ Then why write a big post about it with the headline that you chose? Ah yes, because you're a stereotypical game journalist making a flamey headline for hits. I get it now. ;) We'll see how thing goes once it gets closer to release. That's the only way to tell with these things.
From a marketing standpoint, the boot time is significant. Nintendo's recent products (Wii, 3DS, Wii U) are really reliant on hands-on time and word of mouth for people to really latch onto the idea that this new method of gaming is important. If your demo machine can't do anything for over 2 minutes, then you're losing consumer interest, which Nintendo seriously needs. Nobody's going to stand around that long to give your console a chance.
"If your demo machine can't do anything for over 2 minutes, then you're losing consumer interest" Seems that the number of RROD 360 kiosks didnt sway people from buying one. Consumer interest is way more than a demo kiosk. That is just a very small part. the majority of consumer interest is driven by how much marketing is provided. TV ads, magazine ads, promos from fast food places. Not that many actually make the decision to purchase a system based off the time they play at a store demo. The buy because they either want to or are convinced that it will offer them something that appeals to them. A 2 minute reset might not appeal to you but it certainly isnt a deal breaker for me.
Who disagrees with Chang?!? WHO?!?
So what's the big deal? You just find something else to do, while you wait for it to boot up. I can do a lot of things in 2 minutes....just ask my wife.
dude i doubt the take home product will be that long but, would u seriously not care about something like that if it were? Thats ridiculous cuz my damn PC doesnt even take a full minute.. Now the point of this demo station is to get people to like it, not walk away
Don't look up....but something just went over your head. :o
Ha that was great. +1
Yea, I admit that's pretty damn bad.
No video? I'd like to see this boot for myself.
If you actually clicked to read the article, you would have seen a video link.
Not on N4G there wasnt and now it has been fixed so thanks for your 2 cents.
"If you actually clicked to read the article," he said. That means going to the website to read the article, not this little page here. Reading comprehension is your friend. On topic, I don't think this is a big deal for a demo unit. It might be a little more bothersome if the normal console is the same, but even two minutes isn't that much of a wait.
Agreed, Poster should have posted the video on here as well. Good call.
All good things to those who wait... BUT FOR 2 MINUTES! F that!
is it just me that i wish the load up screen would have the wii bow down and back up
Apparently it's just you lol
I think the wait time is so people don't sit there and try to keep playing. She said it was AFTER they played.
I mean, it sucks, but it makes sense.
is it me or does it seem like ppl are trying to find problems with nintendo
No more than you trying to find reasons to hate on PlayStation.
gamers suck this days
i played on these at play expo and they were forever crashing. ZombiU was the worst one of them all. kept crashing took 2-3 minutes to reboot. hence the huge waiting times to try the console
No it wont take that long! The boot takes the same time than the PS3 ,and actually this guy is so dumb that if he actually had grab the controler and play start button the game would have booted long ago!
well it is a demo kiosk, have we seen an actual console boot from start to in game?
I haven't heard any reports like this from the Nintedo World Store in New York that has the same demo units set up. So I am going to go out on a limb and say something was wrong with the setup here.
the moment the WII U LOGO appears on screen the console have already boot,if you get a look the gamepad actually boots faster since the logo appears sooner on it,than what we are seeing is whats is record in the disc, that screen with the WII U logo flashing its actually written in the WII U demo disc the console has boot a long time ago but is reading the disc and the logo data that is recorded in it!What a troll article!
Why would it take so long to boot? Does it have anything to do with it being configured for a demo station?
