For this week's debate Destructoid wants to know which one game has eaten up more hours of your life than any other game ever has. The type of game where you don't measure gameplay in hours, but in full days or weeks, or even years.
If we are talking old school games, then Id have to go with Mario, Ghosts N' Goblins, and Some Mega Man Games.. .... ...but If your talking current Gen Id say that Resistance, COD4, and Warhawk have been the time consumers.... .. .. ....."The JOEY has Spoken"
metal gear solid 1 and 3 finished both twice back to back then finished both without alerts and then probably GT4 played the sh!t out of that game. For this gen though most game played would have to be warhawk
yeah last gen it would be a tie between Madden and GTA.
this gen it would be a tie between Madden and Warhawk. and yesterday one of my best friends finally bought Warhawk and LOVES it, so i'll probably be spending alot more time on it.
@scottie so far convinced like 4 of my friends to get on it. But most of them remain very skeptical but once they actually play it they are always convinced
Would be lucky if they got to play for an hour AHAAHAHHAHAH
Now go peel a Bannana BABOONBOTS
Crysis, Rainbowsix: Vegas, COD4, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, NBA2k8
Final Fantasy Tactics (PS) took me the longest to beat, but I have spent alot of time on Warhawk as well.
And the Metal gear series for me
is f**kin hilarious.
I spend about 250 hours on Star Ocean 3. But if you want to include online play, then I played well over 1000 hours of Resistance Fall of Man online.
who have not? spent hours playing?
Let's see.....Xenogears I got about 140+ hours in....Final Fantasy 8 took up about 120 hours....Warhawk has about 150+ hours of my life, and Star Ocean 2 got over 200 hours...so yeah..that's a lot.
CSS for me is at like 500 hours, and thats just while I've been logged into Xfire... :|
I stopped playing Counter Strike: Source after about a week, mainly because it's full of hacks and douchebags.
They shouldn't bother you if you are good enough. ;)
CS:Source for me... easily.
Disagree's?? what the f**k, you guys know which game >I< have played the most do you?
o.O people are getting savage here, as for me it would prolly be D2, WoW, Harvest Moon or some RPGs (maybe FF/Dragon Quest/Earthbound)
6 diagrees !!!! lol this site as damn crazy , funny ...
wonder who those people are ...
for me it would have to be Twisted Metal 2 or Goldeneye...11 and 12 years old we would have 48 hour straight tournaments every weekend every cold month of the year (like 5 or 6)...had to have played nearly 1000 hours of both...luckily we grew out of that...
PC wise i was hugely addicted to RTCW at the beginning of this decade...probably played a several hundred hours of that easily...but nothing since then comes close...played probably 30 hours of Resistance 1 online...I am at 50 hours of Warhawk (25 hours tracked, I figured I doubled that overall...when the stats were broken it wasn't keeping track, so who knows)...and am at 5days 8 hours on CoD 4, which is by far the game I have played the most in the last few years...
Fallout 2. I think I've spent more hours in the wastelands than I spend with all other games combined.
Other games that come to mind are:
Mortal Kombat 2,3, Deadly Alliance and Deception
Hopefully I can add MK8 and Fallout 3 to this short list.
Fallout 2 is an epic game. Just reinstalled it the other week funnily enough, got my house mates addicted to it. Other than that, I've played final fantasy games until the clock stops ticking on them... Dragon Quest games are a firm time eater as well.
I would have to say Perfect Dark, and I'm still clocking hours on that motha! Other than that the Command and Conquer series
Well i have over 90hrs on Mass Effect so far...
probably guild wars, I've spend more than 700 hours on this game..
'Guild Wars' stole a great part of my life...but it was worth it. 1,653 hours, 47 minutes over the past 25 months
WoW spend over 6000hours or so in that game
Get out and get a life man...
last gen, the GTA games kill so much time.
this gen, Oblivion is STILL killing time for me.... i guess you can call it A.D.D. becuase i'm so easily distracted from any primary storyline!!
That what was so fun for me when I first played GTA III, not being required to complete mission, just exploring and seeing what I could get away with. I'd get lost in that world many hours. PAIN is taking up a lot of my time recently, the best $10 I ever spent. Grabbing the bikini clad woman on top of the hotel and seeing how many exploding objects we can both bounce off of (I think my record is four). SOCOM II and III were my online time killers. My first experience with the series was a rental of II that ended up being an accidental all-nighter. Seeing the sunrise made me realize what had happened. My current online gaming gravitates towards "High Stakes on the Vegas Strip". I'll sit through many, many hands before I finally feel satisfied with my earnings.
It's probably a tie between 3 games. The first, Alex the Kidd (game built into the Master System II in the UK, my first console), I used to play this from when I got up to when I went to bed at weekends for months on end. The second, FFVII, spend well over 300 hours on it (still got a Memory Card with the ultimate "got everything you can" save) and the third, I rekon I've easily clocked over 150 hours on Counter Strike (1.6 and source).
I spent alot of time playing Metal Gear Solid 1, probably around the 100 hour mark, and I also wasted many months playing Super Mario 3 on the NES.
I'm sure that none of my figures will compare to the WoW players though, that thing is like crack!
Dragon Quest VIII took 200+ hours of my life.
Edit: Ooops, scratch that. Now that I thought about it, Chrono Trigger was the game I played most. Unlocking all the ending was great specially when you have the "New Game +" feature.
He's holding onto the PC so he don't hafta play on PSN with morons like you guys..
What we have here everyone is a sore assed BUTTxBOT !!
i would have to say X-Com: Ufo Defense on the pc. and most recently Oblivion.
Back when I was young and had NO responsibilities. Those were the good old days. Now I find myself waiting for my kids to go to bed to even turn on the old PS3.
I just had to make every single character 99 and I had to make my characters unstoppable, each with Knights of the Round, so I could beat the REAL bosses of the game. The Weapons hiding in the desert and ocean. I also spend a lot of time trying to level up limit breaks to level 4. Aeris' was the hardest due to losing her halfway through the game. Ah, memories. Late night, lonely, pre-pubescent memories.
I sympathise, spending hours and hours, realoding the game save so I can get dragon flare in 3 differant E-skills, so each in my party can have a maxed Eskill, and master materias linked to master all's... where does the time go?
lets see.... back in Warcraft II days, many many hours... hard to guess.
Final Fantasy 7 ate up over 100 hours of my time.
FF8 about the same
FF9 little less
FF10, FFX-2, and FF12 took around 80 hours a peice.
So the FF series really took a lot of my game time!
12 sucks. pealse when u dont put FF in front of the number XII when your refering to that game
call it vagrant story 2
just wanted to do that p1ss you off. it would have to be FFVII that game i just had to have everything completed.
cloud360-13th_acount back off. Little touchy are we? Why should he or anyone else for that matter give a crap if you think 12 sucks. This isn't a thread about the best games, its about what games you played the most and he said for him it was FF12. I'm sure there are several people who think halo sucks, but you don't seem them bashing them for saying they spent a lot of time on it.
for the record I didn't think 12 "sucks" I liked it and vagrant story was good as well. lol
well for me it was shinning force 1 and 2 on the genesis. First rpg game I ever played and those games made me the gamer I am today (for better or worse) Second would prob be a tie with street fighter II turbo and mega man 2
I actually stayed up three days straight to beat shinning force almost perfectly and never put the controller down except for bathroom breaks.
definitely counter strike, MGS 1,2,& 3 Tekken 3 on my PS1, On my old Genesis Street Fighter 2, and NBA Jam... I also happened to play Virtua Fighter A LOT on my Sega 32X way back in the day :p
Edit: and I can't forget Joe Montana Football on Genesis!
Close to 300 days (~7000 hours) /played in World of Warcraft across 4 characters. (Although probably half of that is idling or chatting in Ironforge/Shattrath)
As for singleplayer, it's either Final Fantasy X (PAL version) or Star Ocean III, both around 300 hours.
haha thats not fair! MMORPGs can't count!
Persona 3, 120 hours. Before that I had never played a game more than 80 hours. I tend to play many games on many systems rather than go for perfect completion on a smaller set of games. To each is own though. The most important thing is to enjoy them.
Dude, SAME HERE!! First playthrough 122 hours, right now my timer is at 149 because I started a new game to kick ass with my super tricked out Lucifer that probably took about 2 hours to fuse in the first place.
I did not fuse Lucifer, that would explain the 2 hour difference ;-) I'm really looking forward to their next game now, whatever it may be.
Yeah that Lucifer build gives me all of the best attacks, invincibility, the full hp+mp after every successful battle, and when coupled with Satan the Armageddon 9999hp attack. It was worth it though, even if the game became totally easy after that except that extra dungeon I was still vulnerable if caught offguard. Rumor has it that FES is going to make it stateside, if so then load up that save for like 50 more hours of gameplay. Otherwise Persona 4 is being made and another Shin Megami Tensei game supposedly.
For me it is between Gears of War and Call of Duty 4.
Id say probably the Command & Conquer (1995) RTS, beat that game maybe 3 dozen times, good times...also the first Half-Life and all its modded goodness.
Probably SF3:3rd Strike. Next up would be Xenogears, completed it about 8 times at about 50 or so hours a piece. Then Persona 3 with 149 hours and Front Mission 3 with 130 or so. If MMO's count then Anarchy Online and EVE Online beats all of that.
SP game Id say
Ogre Battle 64 - 140hrs
Maybe Tecmo Super Bowl - only game I played from nes till I got a n64 really
LoZ TP - 70hrs
Wii Bowling - ??
Perfect Dark, No Mercy/WM2K/Revenge, NHL 99/00, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. most hours ever. only reason is my friends and i played those games competitively and cooperatively. i won't even include City of Heroes since MMOs are kinda a given... multiplayer eats up more hours than any single-player game could ever dream of.
Oh sh!t forgot about No Mercy/Wrestlemania/revenge/wou ld tour?
Those 4 games were fantastic I put so many hours into those games. One of the few series that just got better and better and better as they went on. First time that had the battle royal or royal rumble was awesome.
last gen was definatly star ocean3, over 200+ hours in that game and still didnt get everything lol, beat freya so who cares lol.
this gen would maaaaybe be ninja gaiden, warhawk or oblivion
World of Warcraft. I think I'm over 100 days now. Thats 2400 plus hours...
Socom 2. nuff said...
I was just about to say that. Socom 2. Took up between 200-300 hours for me. Maybe more. I know some people with over 1000 hrs.
This gen: Mass Effect, Halo 3, Viva Pinata, Gears of war, Forza 2
viva pinata was really addictive, it took so long to get that dragonache.....
With Final Fantasy XI it was my first MMORPG and i have a Galka that is 75 drk 73 pup all sub jobs leveled. I was playing on my ps3 but i havent in years but i dont have it in my heart to delete my Galka..I was married in the game...i have photos. I miss it. I think im gonna get the expansion and start again.
and now i bought WoW about 2 months ago...addicting..It takes souls you know...
Old School: DMC1, Ninja Gaiden, Metal Gear 1, Halo 1 & 2, Deus Ex on PC, KOTOR 1 & 2.
Next Gen: Mass Effect, Halo 3, COD2, COD4, & Gears of War.
Spent about 100 hrs the first time through, about 150 the 2nd and about 80-100 the third time through. Man this makes me want to go put it in now...
It has gotta be Crackdown!
FFVI (every character to level 99) or Quake 2 (multiplayer)
Final Fantasy 7
Final Fantasy 8
Gears Of War
Unreal Tournament 3
