"Hey guize, I picked 10 really popular games and made the title '10 overrated games'. Has this ever been done before?"

Arkham City deserves the praise. Halo Reach was good, certainly a ton better than ODST and Halo 3. KZ3 is UNDERrated. Uncharted 3 is one of the best games of this gen. The only game on that list that is kinda overrated is Skyrim, but that happens with every Bethesda game.

In what reality was Reach ever better than Halo 3??? Halo 3 is easily one of the best 5 games of this generation.

I agree with your first point on how critics chose the most popular games which are all well-received and then call them overrated, but...

Uncharted 3 is one of the best games this gen? Fuck no. It sucked, Uncharted 2 is a lot better and even that is nothing special. I don't understand what it is people like about Uncharted? The visuals? If so then they're really nothing special and by the time next gen comes they'll look ugly. The gunplay isn't great, the platforming is too fiddly, the stories are mind-numbingly dumb (catered for the mass audience who don't care about stories in games I guess), the characters have no depth, the multiplayer is too complex in UC3 (Uncharted 2 has great straight-forward multiplayer) and the musical score is completely unremarkable and forgettable.

I think Uncharted will be forgotten about next-gen when every game has amazing graphics and epic set-pieces, they're undeniably the two most cited reasons for why people like Uncharted. I hardly ever see anyone praise anything else about the games, although some simpletons praise the unbelievably shallow and cliché stories.

I'm Replaying Skyrim (again), and So Should You

Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.

anast18d ago

I tried, but it's a poorly made game that insults its customers.

lucian22918d ago

nah, only mods make it decent, and even then it's bad, and this is after i modded for at least 3 years

Nittdarko18d ago

Funnily enough, I'm about to play it for the first time in VR with 1000 mods to make the game playable, as is the Bethesda way

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
