Treyarch comes clean: Black Ops didn't "significantly innovate", but Black Ops 2 will
OXM - Call of Duty: Black Ops wasn't the most innovative shooter on the block, Treyarch's Mark Lamia has conceded, but Black Ops 2? It's going to innovate your socks off. Not wearing socks? Say goodbye to your feet.
(Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
They have added so much I don't see how they can be taking a trip down our wallets. Campaign,Mulitplayer ,and Zombies have so much that no other COD has.
Modern Warfare 3 was the COD game made with the least amount of effort. Really put me off the series. Hopefully BLOPS 2 will be an improvement. I think Treyarch have overtaken infinity ward.
A game doesn't have to be innovative to be fun. Besides, they never said Black Ops was super innovative. So why does it say that Treyearch is "coming clean"? They're phrasing it like a confession or something.
Of course not . But there is such a things as improving your game in sequels even if retaining most of it . Wich Cod does but too sparringly .
People love to draw analogies with sport games , but take football games ... at least when they dont come up with big gameplay changes (wich they still did more often than the cod series) , they at least significantly upgrades their graphics and animations .
Cod ? Not so much , sometimes not even at all . Hell Dynasty Warriors , the king of milking series , had more changes between 5 and 7 than past cod titles .
How are they honest if they come out & say...look last time we lied but this time we are really innovating, these cod devs use the words of activision. Its gonna be 4 hours of getting your hand held through a mindless no brain game with very little gameplay. If they made this game require any thought at all the kids would never play it. Even the multi play has become an unbalanced mess & requires no brain power to play it.
well ill be the first to say this, believe it or not from a COD stand point. Treyarch has really been the ones to innovate the franchise. Sure cod 3 wasnt anything worth noting . However it was the first game that allowed the player to sprint prior to that you had to switch pistols. Fast forward to 2008 world at war. Zombies. Allowed for players to differentiate along the competitive gaming routes and engage and help one another while also competiting to survive rounds. IW did do the same thing the next year in a differ way with Spec Ops ( which is kinda crappy too) Follow that up With Black Ops Zombies again with the experience upgraded as well as wager matches also combat training to test your skill before alot of you get gang banged online.
If I bother with any COD it's always Treyarchs, the others are a waste of time & it will be the same this time. If I ever bother with it this will be the one I pick. Didnt even bother trying MW3.
That's arguable. While I have to agree with the first and second are easily the best in the series, I didn't particularly care for Modern Warfare, instead preferring World at War.
Subjectivity is a beautiful thing, ain't it?
But I don't think he's actually referring to the originals, but IW's latest 2 outings.
Yeah I thought Black Ops was great, too. Treyarch had the right game speed for multiplayer. Black Ops 2 supposedly plays more like MW3, meaning it's a faster-paced game with the weapons being deadlier. Hopefully that's not the case.
You probably forget about it being broken for the first 4 months until the patches for the 360 version rolled out...followed by PC fixes and finally PS3.
Remember the hit box issue?
Technically, it was one of the worst in the franchise and highlighted Treyarchs shortcomings...
Really? A video of you playing an objective-based game, and you capping just one objective other than the one at the start of the game? Please...everyone on the other team had horrible k/d ratios as well. Pad your k/d in TDM.
It doesn't innovate at all from the multiplayer side. It has some refinements like your load out options, multi team modes, round based modes, scorestreaking..but that doesn't Innovate, it's a refinement people. The cod casting thing is a gimmick. Sorry to upset and disappoint u, but this is all PR talk. They're saying the right things to create buzz for their game like every deb does. Just take it with a grain of salt.
There is full games of black ops 2 on YouTube go watch. It's the same exact thing
Cod4 was an innovation, it changed the way we look at multiplayer
I seem to recall having the same conversation for the last 3 CoDs. how much each game moved the series forward...lol. It's been pretty much the exact opposite for years.
So they've stripped the mp back to what it was years before. I'd hardly called that innovation. They've expanded Zombie mode to something that resembles L4D. While that's fantastic news, it's not innovative. They've moved the series to the near future....no innovation there.
If 3arch were to figure out how to create difficulty without the randomly spawning and infinite amount of enemies that spam an unlimited supply of grenades....that could be considered innovation. Abandoning the invisible line that the game funnels you through with those infinitely spawning enemies would also go a long way towards improving the franchise. Realistic explosions and animations would also be innovative for the franchise.
I i really did like the wager matches and zombies, was kinda disappointed when they didn't return to mw3, so i didn't buy it (although i played it at a friends house).
I find this "come clean" headlines to be somewhat trollish, any one agree/disagree? i mean, imo, there is nothing to "come clean" about. Black Ops was fun, and it did a lot of things that other shooters in its genre didnt or wouldnt do.
Really put me off the series.
Hopefully BLOPS 2 will be an improvement.

And it's too obvious to deny at this point , espcially after they squeezed everybit of money from those titles already

4 years from now:

... and so on.

But the rest of your comment is solid, for the most part, soo... :P

it's going to be hard act to follow. I'm expecting to be disappointed because the MP underwent so much change

no, it won't.

I can't speak on zombies.

None of that will happen..
