7 Games Sent to Die on Black Ops II Launch Day

IGN - Whether you're a Call of Duty fan or not, it is impossible to deny that each new entry in the franchise carries with it an insurmountable level of buzz, chaos, and retail insanity. The latest in the series, Black Ops II, is the most pre-ordered video game ever and will likely bring with its launch some of the biggest first-week sales numbers in the history of gaming on November 13th. (3DS, PC, PS Vita, PS3, Xbox 360)

Most of these games cater to an audience completely different from the COD one, they seem like games that parents would get for their kids for Christmas.

these guys are game journalist working for IGN don't expect them to understand that their are other audience groups other than COD Group
HammadTheBeast  +   892d ago
But honestly, half of those games would've died with or without Black Ops 2. Pretty clever move by the devs.... Blame the death of these games on the "accidental" arrival of CoD.
ikkokucrisis  +   892d ago
Damn, I was really hoping that Monster High Skultimate Roller Maze was gonna hit its day-1 sales quota...oh well!

Yet another fail article from IGNorant..

COD = Completely One Dimensional

COD fans think that the only game that matters that day is COD. As a father with two kids, I already was planning on buying Ben 10 and Monster High for my adolescent sons and daughter when I pick up my copy of Black Ops II.

While none of those two games, or the others on the list, will even come close to matching the sales COD will rack up, they will find a small niche with the gamers, young gamers, they are catering to.
Army_of_Darkness  +   892d ago
Actual competitors should Put currently released games on sale that day to lower blops2 sales
All of those other games are games that the average gamer don't even care about?! They are all basically casual to children's games.
COD really doesn't have any competition on release when you look at the big picture here.

I hope recently released games go one sale that week like RE6, Dead or alive 5, Borderlands 2, dishonored or sleeping dogs cause I would definitely buy one of those instead:-)

(just look at the list)
very lame and unprofessional.

That's Brian Altano for you. They do this all the time on IGN's Up At Noon.
Cam977  +   892d ago
I completely agree, there no true competition here.
Muffins1223  +   892d ago | Funny
Not really...cod is full of little kids

Detoxx  +   892d ago
That made my day, thank you sir :D
HammadTheBeast  +   892d ago
Usually, I would've rolled my eyes, but this was priceless.
Vickistheman  +   892d ago
LOL.. so true.
braydox21  +   892d ago
thats is funny, however i have had very little experiance with children on cod ( i play on ps3) i have had children (or child like behaviour) on mics with setting switched so they come out really swqeaky, but i have never experianced trash talking kids before and ive played black ops and mw3, the closest thing would be when one smartass kid thought that adults didn't play cod and the kiwi told him he was old enough to be his dad, so there was that unpleastaness communication between those in one match but that was it. you guys are lucky, just so everyone knows Im at senior teenage years, so Im not a tween or 12-10 year old. man you guys are lucky i mean iv'e never had that experiance, i kinda feel left out, but who knows i might get luck this time black ops maybe there will be some arrogant, ignorant kids that i will outwit and disprove all their chilidish insults and insult their intelligence or basically point out their childish stupidity
Run_bare  +   892d ago
hahaha.. that's funny..
joeorc  +   892d ago
lol but they must also have some money on hand
with the parents must make sure they also have Cash on delivery

showtimefolks  +   892d ago
This list is for casuals but wonder book can hit it big time if advertised a bit for parents to buy for their kids. It's things like wonder books which can sell unexpected numbers and big numbers because it's geared towards kids

With Disney on board I believe wonder book will be a huge success
braydox21  +   892d ago
i saw wonder book at the EB games expo 2012 and it looked great a little bit i suppose maybe glitchy, or sometimes it maybe difficult to turn pages. but that was a demo which is all right with these sorts of games. for a childrens game it looks really entertaining as well as educational, in read and explore kind of way, the voice over kind just puts you into that atmosphere of harry potter.
Neonridr  +   892d ago
The only thing going against Wonderbook is the kids of today's generation have the attention span of a rock. Meaning unless they are blowing stuff up or killing things, will they really give the time of day to sit down and read a book, even if it has some simulation scenarios on the TV?

Don't get me wrong, I think Wonderbook is a novel idea, but they are going to need tons of content to get this thing going. Having JK Rowling doesn't hurt either..
Marquis_de_Sade  +   891d ago
Neonridr, it always amuses me to hear such remarks from older generations, especially when they are of a generation producing children so lacking when it comes to attention span. It seems in western society it's easier to blame the children than the poor parenting that influences them from an early age.
Knight_Crawler  +   891d ago
As a father 3 kids I think Wonder Book is a great idea and might pick it up depending on the price.

People downplaying WB or Kinect have been on N4G way too long and need to realise that people on gaming website are a small majority compared to the casuals.

The only problem with wonder book is that Sony is the one making it which will make it an instant fail in the sales department.

If MS was the one releasing wonder book this think would probably beat Kinect as the fastest selling gadget of all time...Sony need to step up there marketing department and put WB in every TV commercial in America and every Subway as well.

WTF all these games look DOA to me to begin with...
doogiebear  +   892d ago
I'd rather give those other games a try instead of another cod. They may be childish, but at least they do new, creative things in the gaming industry, unlike cod.

this is a joke for sure. he cant be serious about the list. =D
Eyeco  +   892d ago
Very obscure list of games, most of these wouldn't have sold well regardless of COD.
TopDudeMan  +   892d ago
Let's be fair... These games are being sent out to die no matter when they come out.
SilentNegotiator  +   892d ago
Wonderbook, kids cartoon game, racer, dancer, game that is doomed either way, 3DS rabbids, game directed at little girls....

Yeah, they sure are doomed because of COD.
ajax17  +   891d ago
I know, I almost thought it was a joke. What an idiot he's comparing apple to AK's.
-Gespenst-  +   891d ago
I don't know about that moegooner88... I heard some kids, that couldn't have been older than 6, unsupervised, in a gamestop, arguing about Nuketown and other maps from Black Ops.

It's not a good thing that a game as effing stupid as COD has become so culturally ubiquitous. Big videogame corporations feeding us fetishistic representations of war... no thanks.
Kaneda  +   891d ago
I am actually getting F1 Race Stars and MOH warfighters.. BLOPS is not on my list.. :)

The Wonderbook would be alright if Sony put some commercials on TV.

And could someone please explain to me how Ben 10 Omniverse wouldn't be sent out to die as the only thing released in the middle of a game drought?

Still needs advertising.

Do game companies usually advertise products that aren't available for purchase?
testerg35  +   892d ago
Ummm.. Yes
rpd123  +   892d ago
What the fuck kind of question is that?
JellyJelly  +   892d ago
This whole Wonderbook thread is beyond retardation.

"The Wonderbook would be alright if Sony put some commercials on TV."

No. It never looked good to begin with so the commercials excuse won't pass.

"If schools and daycares get a look at it, Sony could make some serious money."

Because schools and daycare are very wealthy institutions? Don't you think they would spend that money on getting something more important than a gimmick book for kids?

"Do game companies usually advertise products that aren't available for purchase?"

Don't know if serious.
Marquis_de_Sade  +   891d ago
Is that a serious question?

I'm tempted to get the BBC Dinosaurs one just for myself.

Unfortunately my daughter isn't old enough for this yet so i hope it continues into nextgen.

I agree they forget at IGN that there are other gamers out their who are part of a different audience other than COD only or FPS only Gamers.
Tales RPG addict  +   892d ago
IGN is biased I don't listen to them at all.
PontiacPete  +   892d ago
So are all video game websites, for the most part. The bias comes down to the person who wrote the article.
jagstatboy  +   892d ago
LOL they should all be sent to die regardless of when they come out.
ChunkyLover53  +   892d ago
Those games aren't selling much no matter when they launched. The only one I've heard of from that group is Wonderbook, and the only reason I know that was because I clearly remembered the huge fail and 20+ minute "demo" at E3.

There has been zero advertisements for any of those games, COD coming out on the same day is irrelevant.
Lior  +   892d ago
I never heard of 6 out the 7 on the list
InTheZoneAC  +   892d ago
rabbids will probably be the only game that sells more than 1 copy
smashcrashbash  +   892d ago
Many of these games were probably going to die any way.
GamerElite  +   892d ago
Those games are already Dead on Arrival with or without Lack ops 2. I haven't heard on any of those

I honestly don't see a game on this list that will do better or worst with black ops on the market rabbids has always done well even without ads. and the rest are gonna be doa or unheard off until this point

i'm gonna get kickbeat too
Neko_Mega  +   892d ago
Only one of those games I see doing ok, the rest seem like trash.
Mounce  +   892d ago
Sent to their graves? I haven't even seen or heard most of the titles listed in there....Except for Sony's Wonderbook, but that of which is like.... not anything expected to sell to begin with... Everything else is casual random kiddy-crap :/ And they're clumping it with what will be neglected due to a worldwide-known title, an FPS....that happens to be COD?

What a wonderful article, which seems to have the underlying purpose of Hyping COD rather than the topic(Which is 'Direct') about 'These games gonna suck due to this game', it's irrelevant.... This is just free publicity and Indirect Hyping.
MySwordIsHeavenly  +   892d ago
Mothers ask for Monster High games ALL THE TIME at my store.
specialguest  +   892d ago
Wonderbook never had a chance even if it was released outside of COD's release month. The game is 3 years late during the tail end of the Harry Potter hype and when the Move had hype.
SovereignSnaKe  +   892d ago
Stupidest article of the Week right here, Just because you release a game up against something as over rated as COD does not mean it's going to fail, I bought Resident Evil 6 a week after it released! When did day one become the be all end all of a games a games success? I truly wonder how many years it takes for people to just stop buying these "Fad Franchises" and THEY Die. Is it weird that when someone finds out I'm a gamer and they say "oh you play call of duty brah", I look at them like they just killed my dog... -_-
StreetsofRage  +   892d ago
Wonderbook is coming out this year? :/
abzdine  +   892d ago
WOW what an objective article from a famous gaming website.

I am buying Book of Spells, Sports Champions 2 and Battle Royale before end of the year.
I'm not interested in Bang Bang you're dead Bang Bang you're dead Bang Bang you're dead Bang Bang you're dead Bang Bang you're dead.

I encourage studios who try to develop something new, unique and refreshing. FPSs suck so bad it's always the same, ALWAYS!!

I dont agree with Wonder book being there, I think Sony has a great opportunity with that game to really bring the younger audience to Playstation if they get the marketing right, for me though, COD is already DOA.
Captain Tuttle  +   892d ago
lol wonderbook
Flatbattery  +   892d ago
I'm really starting to believe that some of these pre-order and sales numbers thrown around for CoD are bull.

As of this moment I don't know of anybody who is interested in buying this year. In fact non of my adult friends, my son or his friends are interested or bought it last year. I work in a major UK city college with a student population of 16,000 and I haven't heard a single person mention it. Which is a far cry from two years ago when you couldn't turn a corner without overhearing somebody talking about getting the next CoD, and I couldn't get through a single class without somebody asking me if I was getting it.

I may very well be wrong, but the silence this year is deafening.
sjaakiejj  +   892d ago
These games cater to a completely different audience than CoD. It's a different market - it's like saying that the new ferrari is going to sell horribly because a new Jeep is coming the same month.
thybrutalthrone  +   892d ago
Are you all retarded?! Its a joke article they're not being the slightest bit serious. I swear my hope for humanity deteriorates every living day you idiots are on this planet.
