Dead Space 3 is about fear of turning corners...and being a total badass (Gadget Review)

James Pikover from Gadget Review: Dead Space is one of the few truly good horror games of this console generation. Developer Visceral Games just gets the genre. To up the ante with Dead Space 3 the Montreal-based developer isn’t just relying on the new cooperative gameplay revealed at E3; everything is being overhauled. (Dead Space 3, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

Fear of finding more casual TPS moments behind every corner. Truly frightening.

I am not a big fan of what I have heard so far but I believe it'll still be better than Resident Evil 5/6.

The first Deadspace game was simply awesome. The game that RE should have been.

I haven't played RE6 yet, but Dead Space 3 is definitely looking better than RE5. When I played, it was actually scary, not just shock frights. I don't think RE6 was ever meant to be psychological horror, but more gross horror, so I'd definitely root for DS3.

I'm surprised no one has pointed out that the title says "review" yet. Like zomg the author has a time machine.

Website is called Gadget Review. This isn't actually a review game.

Actually I feel that way when I play Dead Space which is why I actually like it. If I am good enough even on the hardest difficulty I always felt like I could deal with the situation which I like. Whether or not you are scared or something changes from person to person.

Fear and badass can't be used in the same sentence. Hopefully they stick to the roots. I'll judge this game once it gets release. So far not really feeling it though.

I almost thought this was the new Army Of Two.

Completely Coop the whole time......horrifying.

You can remove the AI character and still play the game entirely yourself. Just sayin'...

Having an AI companion option at all is completely in the wrong direction for this franchise. Mass appeal FTW again, and EA tanks another great potentiality.

@IIC0mPLeXII I disagree with you there, at least for online coop. In the same room, yeah, you don't get that same "fright" feeling, the general eerieness of the game. But if you're playing alone in a room, unless your partner or you won't stop babbling about whatever dumb thing happened to them that day, it can get even scarier. We used to do it in Doom 3, which had so many random things hiding in dark corners that 50% of the game was "OH SH- KILL IT KILL IT!"

Wouldn't have been nearly as fun alone. That support, be it with firing bullets, emotional, or just knowing you're in it with someone else, makes the whole experience stronger.

He still can have grounds to worry imo . It's not certain the game is properly designed for single player as well as co-op , and it does look way more action so far than past titles .

Yeah, you are fighting human opponents now, as well as universal ammunition. I beat Dead Space 2 on Hardcore and it was one of my most proudest accomplishments in gaming. This new iteration with its terrible ideas shits all over that.

I can't have fear of turning corners because I will be too busy being a badass as I take cover and spray & pray at a bunch of enemies. It's not a horror game anymore so why should I have anything to fear?
jamezrp  +   735d ago
You'll be afraid. But then you'll see Isaac Clarke on screen being a badass and steel yourself against the onslaught of Necromorphs. And you'll be a man, with hair on his chest, a beard to your nipples, and an axe on both shoulders.
nofallouthero  +   735d ago
i dont think you can really have both at the same time being strong and being weak they just don't mix
Catoplepas  +   735d ago
You're right. It's an oxymoron.

Fear stems from vulnerability. If you have Gatling Guns for eyes, and B52 bombers for arms what's to fear?

I see a lot of hate for this game. The same was said about Dead Space 2, how it would be less survival horror and more third person shooter. The Devs proved everyone wrong and that game turned out great. That being said, I know DS2 didn't have the coop but I think it will be implemented well enough in DS3 and the game will still have a lot of thrills and scares.

Fear is the last thing i will be specting when playing DS3.
