The Games of 2013 That Make New Consoles Irrelevant

StickSkills said, "The games of fall 2012 have been talked to death, and you should be excited for quality titles like Hitman: Absolution, Halo 4 and PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale. You’re going to have a great Christmas, dear reader, but the software set to release in early 2013 will blow you away. You can talk about the rumored specs and features for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720 all day, and you know, I’d probably have fun joining you in that conversation. Yet, the consoles on the market still have plenty of life in them, and the following games are why I’ll be happy to be a gamer next year." (Beyond: Two Souls, BioShock: Infinite, DmC: Devil May Cry, Halo 4, Hitman: Absolution, Industry, Metro: Last Light, PC, PS3, Tomb Raider, Xbox 360)

Why are so many people so keen to hang on to these ancient machines?
thorstein  +   992d ago
You're right, consoles have only been around since the 1970s! I mean c'mon people when are you going to admit that 40 years of console gaming is just a FAD! It has been irrelevant since the beginning! There have only been a few good games in that time and everyone knows the PC (or the Vic 20) trumps (trumped) consoles and pwned the crap out of them./s

Or maybe I won't just buy into every BS article about doom and gloom of consoles. If it isn't Doom and Gloom for Sony or Nintendo, it is Doom and Gloom for ALL consoles that do TENS OF BILLIONS of dollars every year.
Pandamobile  +   992d ago
Uh, the article was about next-gen consoles.

I could be wrong but it sounds like he was commenting on this generations of consoles not consoles in general.
thorstein  +   991d ago
I see that now but flametastic headlines can cause confusion.

Why don't you own the latest Ferrari.

New s*** costs money, dude.

Also, pushing the boundaries of current hardware forces devs to become innovative in their approach if they want to stand out.

ex. ND, Quatic Dream, TellTale, ThatGameCompany, etc.

its the money... nobody wants to shell out any of that upfront money... when they are going to blow it on dumb shit anyway.... like eating out way too often.. or buying 200 dollar pair of shoes ... when 40 dollar shoes wuould suffice ... or anything along those line

1. That List was absolute Dog Poo

2. MMO's are the way off the Future so therefore new consoles with the proper power are needed to be able to take advantage of all the things MMO's can do

(There are FPS, RTS, Hack n Slash, Sports, etc. type of MMO's so don't be a dummy and think every MMO is like World of Warcraft)

3. Also I'm so SICK of Devs saying "Console X has more un-used power" when most of the games are sub HD resolution

4. this Gen has been great but it's time to Move on to bigger and better things.

5. still can't believe how Poo that list was! failed to mention GOD OF WAR Ascension and Dust 514 and it's evolutionary attempt at console gaming.

No Last Of Us? That looks to have the best console graphics of this gen. Right next to Beyond.
Tontus  +   991d ago
God of War: Ascension will top both clearly when it releases, God of War II is the best looking PS2 game and God of War: Ghost of Sparta was the best looking PSP game, they always push the systems to the absolute limits and deliver the most beautiful games.

Beyond: Two Souls has very little to process compared to other games which means it's visuals should be the best but they don't have a big enough development team or budget to ensure the entire game has the same amazing graphics they've already shown consistently throughout the game, it'll still look amazing though and definitely better than TLoU..

I'm not impressed with the Last of Us graphically, I still think God of War III looks a hell of a lot better and God of War: Ascension looks even better than that: https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.a...

How'd DMC get in over Last of Us and God of War?
robavila95  +   992d ago
Indeed, the graphics of these games are great, but next-gen consoles are necessary to increase the processing power available so that games will not only look better, but also run smoother and over a greater area.

I can only imagine what Halo 5 might be like. Maybe 60 fps, greater player count, and fully customizable environments?

There is a little life left in at least 2 of the 3 consoles this Gen. I think the 360 and PS3 still have some suprises in store for next year.
