'Halo 4' developer 343 Industries: 'Games lack watercooler moments'

Halo 4 developer 343 Industries believes that 'Spartan Ops' mode will create watercooler moments among gamers.

In an interview with Digital Spy, franchise development director Frank O'Connor said that video games were lacking in watercooler moments because games are played at a different pace by each individual. (343 Industries, Halo 4, Industry, Xbox 360)

Odd. Everyone around our water cooler can't stop talking about the crazy stuff happening in Borderlands 2.

Thats until Nov 6 when Halo 4 creams the competition.

Halo 4 will get creamed by Black Ops 2.

Lol, good one GraveLord.

The only aspect Black Ops 2 will "Cream" Halo 4 will be in sales numbers. Considering this IS an exclusive release whereas BO2 will launch on multiple platforms.

Water cooler moments?
Maybe they haven't played many games in their lifetimes, but there have been plenty for me.

Then again, it sounds like they're talking about shooters. You won't get many of those moments in most shooters.

Well a dose of the biggest exclusive of 2012 should cure that. The last intense watercooler talk I had was back with the Legendary ending of Halo 3 and we were all talking about what it meant.

The Legendary Ending to Halo 3 was a watercooler moment. Everyone in the office was talking about it. Those who played on normal were dying to get to it.

Hopefully Halo 4 delivers some moments like that.

Black Ops II is going to destroy this game in sales.

Obviously, the there will be about 12 million PS3 owners buying Black Ops II that Microsoft can't touch but Black Ops II will probably sell 6 million more units that Halo 4 on 360 also.

Funny, I suddenly hear things like, "Black Ops II will sell more but Halo 4 will be a better game!" from Xbox 360 fans that swear the opposite when PS3 games are brought up.

How's that flip-flopping taste?

Hello shoe, meet other foot.

Lol destroy? Well, Black Ops II is on PS3, Xbox, Wii U, PC, so I would hope it sells better.

But if your talking about only Xbox, Halo won't get "destroyed." Halo 3 has about 11 million world wide in sales, Modern Warfare 3 has about 14 million sold on 360. At most Black Ops will sell 2-4 million more on 360 than Xbox.

And even than, Halo will have better ratings and post-content support than 95% of games, guaranteed.

So it'll sell more than 99% of games, will have better post-content support, and will have more content than most shooters on the market when it releases.

And if you think sales = better, even then, Halo will be the second "best" game on consoles. I think Microsoft and Xbox Fans can live with that. Oh, and Xbox fans also have the first "best" game on their console as well if you believe that, with exclusive DLC of course.

Personally, I don't give a shit, I just wanna play Halo. But you seem to enjoy coming into a thread about Halo and ragging on it. So keep hating and I'll keep playing games.

There has been a recent surge in watercooler moments in the last couple of years. Hell, the Uncharted series is ripe with them.
