Sega Needs a SSMB-like Fighting Game

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is on its way. The lineup has been clarified at E3/PAX. The big question here is, why hasn’t Sega come out with a fighting game like Super Smash Brothers? They have plenty of great characters outside of the Sonic Franchise to choose from, characters from Shenmue, Madworld, Streets of Rage, NiGHTS, Phantasy Star, and the list goes on and on. (Industry, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, PS3, Sega, Wii U, Xbox 360)

While a Super SEGA Bros Brawl would be neat, SEGA needs to get their act together on core franchises such as Sonic, Shenmue, NiGHTS, and Phantasy Star (though to be fair, PS, Yakuza, and Virtua Fighter have all been good lately).

Funny thing....
SEGA has already done mascot fighting games before. Even before Nintendo did.

I wonder... if Sega does do a 4 player brawler like SSB, will the fanboys claim it's a cheap rip off and say that Nintendo should sue them? Because apparently, in their minds, Nintendo owns exclusive rights to the whole genre.

I say, the more the merrier. Look at other games like KoF, Guilty Gear, Mortal Kombat, BlazBlue, etc, I don't see Captor fussing over every other 1 on 1 2D fighter that came out after Street Fighter.

Actually they could just team with Nintendo for a smash bros game sense they are so similar, and the target audience for smash bros has already proved that they love sonic and sega, because most of them were 80's babies or early 90's babies, which is the era ruled by Nintendo and SEGA

I don't think that would be a great idea. I think we've all been pretty happy with Smash Brothers, now we have all these people calling for other Smash Brothers types of games. It could end up diluting the market, especially if a bad Smash Bro's type of game were to be released, it might have a negative impact on the good Smash Bro's games.

How? That makes no sense. What does one game's success/failure, have to do with that of another game? I don't care enough about this subject either way, but I just had to respond to your comment: Man, it's no wonder your a 1-bubble-wonder now. LOL dude, nobody ever agrees with you. You NEVER make ANY sense. It's no coincidence that you feel like Homer Simpson is a fitting avatar. Your IQ is just about on his level.

There have been a lot of SSB type games. Granted, most of them have not been released in America. Battle Stadium D.O.N. (Naruto, DBZ and One Piece), Dream Mix TV (Hudson, Konami, Takara), Jump Ultimate Stars (Shonen Jump Anime), etc. I just see it as more games like one that I love.

SSMB? What is the "M" for?

Anyway, i think SEGA should make one for sure. They have such great characters and i would really enjoy the game if done right.

Another option would be Nintendo partnering with SEGA and making the next Smash bros have all Nintendo and SEGA characters.

While that would be cool, i dont want 2D Crossover Brawlers to become over done. The fact we have gotten only 5 in 13 years makes them unique and special. I dont want these to become Call of Duty in terms of release.

Really ? Sega hasnt been doing many of those old franchises justice in a long while . And they are already using a bunch with their kart racing game
admiralvic  +   684d ago
Wasn't fighters mega mix or whatever pretty much this and predated SSB?
Baka-akaB  +   684d ago
Fighters megamix was a rather serious fighting game . It's Sonic fighters that was a smash bros before it's time of some kind

pointless. sonic is in smash bros. and he is better off there.
nintendo should simply get tails and the rest of the sega losers in smash bros.

the sony smash bros clone is bad enough.

lets leave the real smash bros experience to nintendo

saying its bad without even playing it. Yup very original:P
btw its not a clone when it plays different and have different characters

They did a crossover racer instead, also tennis.

And they're still not even using all the franchises they could. It hurts.

Sega should make one I already know it would be better than ps all star battle royale
dafegamer  +   683d ago
Its very funny how some fanboys are in denial that SSB wasnt the first 4 Player brawler. Here chefck this is out
The outfoxies, by namco 1994,was the first to invent this smash bros fighting style http://www.youtube.com/watc...
also sega did mascot brawlers way before Nintendo. So Fanboys stop being so butthurt about PASBR

I'd play it despite the only Sega games I really played being Streets of Rage, Sonic, Golden Axe and SOnic ALl Stars racing are pretty much the only games I've played. I just l like all the characters. They could even have the Avengers guest star seeing as how Sega made their games(even though they were all terrible) but yeah I'd love to see Sega All Star Bash Fest if they made a game as decent as SOnic All Star Racing
