Sega Needs a SSMB-like Fighting Game

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is on its way. The lineup has been clarified at E3/PAX. The big question here is, why hasn’t Sega come out with a fighting game like Super Smash Brothers? They have plenty of great characters outside of the Sonic Franchise to choose from, characters from Shenmue, Madworld, Streets of Rage, NiGHTS, Phantasy Star, and the list goes on and on.

While a Super SEGA Bros Brawl would be neat, SEGA needs to get their act together on core franchises such as Sonic, Shenmue, NiGHTS, and Phantasy Star (though to be fair, PS, Yakuza, and Virtua Fighter have all been good lately).

SEGA has already done mascot fighting games before. Even before Nintendo did.

I wonder... if Sega does do a 4 player brawler like SSB, will the fanboys claim it's a cheap rip off and say that Nintendo should sue them? Because apparently, in their minds, Nintendo owns exclusive rights to the whole genre.

I say, the more the merrier. Look at other games like KoF, Guilty Gear, Mortal Kombat, BlazBlue, etc, I don't see Captor fussing over every other 1 on 1 2D fighter that came out after Street Fighter.

Actually they could just team with Nintendo for a smash bros game sense they are so similar, and the target audience for smash bros has already proved that they love sonic and sega, because most of them were 80's babies or early 90's babies, which is the era ruled by Nintendo and SEGA

I don't think that would be a great idea. I think we've all been pretty happy with Smash Brothers, now we have all these people calling for other Smash Brothers types of games. It could end up diluting the market, especially if a bad Smash Bro's type of game were to be released, it might have a negative impact on the good Smash Bro's games.

How? That makes no sense. What does one game's success/failure, have to do with that of another game? I don't care enough about this subject either way, but I just had to respond to your comment: Man, it's no wonder your a 1-bubble-wonder now. LOL dude, nobody ever agrees with you. You NEVER make ANY sense. It's no coincidence that you feel like Homer Simpson is a fitting avatar. Your IQ is just about on his level.

There have been a lot of SSB type games. Granted, most of them have not been released in America. Battle Stadium D.O.N. (Naruto, DBZ and One Piece), Dream Mix TV (Hudson, Konami, Takara), Jump Ultimate Stars (Shonen Jump Anime), etc. I just see it as more games like one that I love.

SSMB? What is the "M" for?

Anyway, i think SEGA should make one for sure. They have such great characters and i would really enjoy the game if done right.

Another option would be Nintendo partnering with SEGA and making the next Smash bros have all Nintendo and SEGA characters.

While that would be cool, i dont want 2D Crossover Brawlers to become over done. The fact we have gotten only 5 in 13 years makes them unique and special. I dont want these to become Call of Duty in terms of release.

okay i counted 4, what's the 5th?

That shitty Cartoon Network game.
