Insomniac wants Fuse players to 'take the universe seriously'

Fuse continues the co-op direction of the game, but has shifted its look to a style that tilts more toward realism than fantasy.

Some internet reaction has labeled the new style powering Fuse as just another 'standard military shooter,' but Insomniac says it's not totally shunning the game's fantastical elements.

"We have our underwater bases. We've got missiles and volcanoes. We have a lot of exotic situations but at the same time we want people to take the universe seriously," Insomniac Creative Director Brian Allgeier told Joystiq at the 2012 New York Comic Con.

More like EA forced use to make the game serious.

Who actually cares? The game had no hype behind it at all after E3. Everyone saw the trailer and instantly moved on.

I love how people have begun to act like they cared all along....

A lot of people I knew from here and playfire.com were interested in it after E3, but immediately lost interest with the style change.

It looks pretty generic now, why buy another game that's liable to look and play like games we've seen before. I'm not saying it's bad now, it's just by being less unique and quirky it reduced my incentive to buy it / be interested.

I personally see nothing wrong with generic as people refer to it. People just want a reason to complain. No reason to say its generic without sampling it in motion.

Fact is we are getting closer and closer to a graphical wall. Technically PS3/X360 can't push any further they have hit their wall with graphics. So yes some games look similar with graphical styles. Doesn't mean they play exactly the same though.

As a big fan of INSOMNIAC i'm afraid i'm gonna have to pass on this game i liked it better when it was called Overstrike and it had humor now it just looks like another boring shooter:(.

I want to support Insomniac too... I think they need to really do something innovative with the story from the moment you start playing in order for it to be anything different from your carbon copy shooter. Right now, extra power ups and "realistic" visuals just sounds like the safe route to take.

I mean Medal of Honor, Battlefield... EA would have done well to go a little more balls to the wall. especially with their stock price in the toilette.

Your gunna pass on the game before even playing it? Ummm...what if its actually good?

WrAiTh Sp3cTr31354d ago

Lol, it didn't stop these people from hyping Starhawk.

Summons751354d ago

If you want people to take the universe seriously be sure to make a engrossing story with memorable characters. More people can get attached the more serious they will take it, simple as that.

prototypeknuckles1354d ago

a game doesnt need to be super serious for people to get emotionally attatched to the characters, some games are light hearted and have some very good characters in them that you start to care for

Summons751354d ago

I wasn't really saying super serious, even light hearted stories can get someone wrapped up in what is going on.

We'll all know the real reason for the change a year after it releases; when they devs won't catch flak for saying truthful things after the game has been shipped.

I feel bad for them. This game has a good chance of flopping. Even if it is good. Some developers are great and have huge success as a "second party" developer but when you take that away they become lost. Not sure if they get assistance Or direction from the console companies or what but look at Rare under Nintendo and the many others. So good and then once solo or under another company... just missing something. Hope they pull this off.
