Ten female game characters I’m not ashamed to show my daughter

Nation Post writes: The good news is that the medium is turning a corner. The Dead or Alives of the world are still going strong, but each passing year brings more female game characters who aren’t defined by their cup size. We’re seeing more smart, capable women who can take care of themselves – and maybe even save the world while they’re at it. (Culture, Half-Life 2, Indigo Prophecy, PS2, PS3, Resident Evil Code: Veronica, Wii, Xbox, Xbox 360)

You can tell the idiot who wrote this never played a Tomb Raider game in their life. Lara Croft has always been smart, adventurous, and determined who always got herself out of tight spots.

Also, lol at Nintendo having never sexualized Samus. I believe in the first game you can get to see her in a bikini.

It would be nice if the people who write these things actually knew what the hell they were talking about.

She's also always been a woman with an unreasonable bust. I can understand why someone might not want to show that to their young daughter...

So, because she was given big breasts those other qualities should be ignored? I guess these young daughters shouldn't watch TV or movies then. What about the new Lara? She almost gets raped and gets her ass kicked. That's OK to show his daughter?

Well... I agree that showing rape to his daughter is probably not what any father would want to do.

Though, to be honest, being strong doesn't mean you won't get raped. Women just have to live with the fact that 1 in 4 of us will be sexually assaulted at some point in our lives, and that's in nice countries like the US and Canada. It definitely doesn't make her weak to have survived a rape attempt.

As for her breasts, no, it shouldn't mean her other qualities are ignored, even if those things are big enough to topple her (maybe that's why she moved like a tank in the last game I bothered playing). I think she is a fairly strong woman throughout the series. But... the interviews with the developers are pretty much along the lines of "we made her a sexy woman so that the men playing would feel protective towards her." So, yeah, probably not the first choice I'd make for a game character for a girl to look up to.

This article in itself is pretty sexist. It's like saying that if a woman is in anyway sexualized then she is bad person and women should never aspire to be like her.

Because we all know that the good girls stay home and bake pies. Or they are the soccer mom type and of course those type would never be kinky.

The only thing this guy should be worrying about is his daughter growing up to be proud of who she is and what she does. This article just makes me feel sorry for his daughter.

Whoa! Fem!Shep wouldn't "stay home and bake pies" or be a "soccer mom" type of person. Nor is Faith, or Samus Aran. The point of them is that they're characters who happen to be women, and "being sexy" isn't any more on their minds than it is on a typical man-character's mind.

id like to point out with the limited tech back then samus was only in a bikini to make it clear that he was a she

Lack of anyone from Uncharted leaves me a little confused to be honest.

Chloe kicks ass. I absolutely love Trishka from Bulletstorm.

Make the titties large and bouncy, put her in leather pants so it looks like their butts are big, add some shine to it, have them bend over in "suggestive" positions while attacking, put a character 3D gallery so nerds can fap all night.

It's quite funny/annoying to see how hard these devs try to make a "sexy" character and gamers drool over CGI. Maybe I'll never get it.

Have you played Street Fighter X Tekken lol It's so blatant that it gets ridiculous lol

Because there are no indecent or suggestive pictures on the internet. And other media forms never sexualize a woman or a man to sell their products.
