PETA Targets Pokemon, Creates “Gotta Free them All” Flash Game

After targeting Mario recently with the ‘Mario Kills Tanooki campaign’, PETA have done it again and have gone after Pokemon. Their latest mantra? “Gotta Free them All”. Of course, it’s a twisted version of “Gotta Catch them All”. (3DS, Nintendo DS, PC, Pokemon, Wii, Wii U)

People who say "it's stupid because Pokémon aren't real" really don't get it. If you do think about it, trapping animals and make them fight each other is actually terrible and cruel. Pokémon aren't real, but real animals are suffering this same fate, they are kept in tiny cages, they aren't treated well, and they have to fight or worse to get little food to barely stay alive.

It's obvious that the goal of this kind of thing isn't to make people free their Pokémon, but to use it as a way to bring attention to the real animals who, in a lot of ways, are treated as Pokémon (and they don't only faint when they lose a battle - they die). I don't really like Peta, but I think that most of its opposers are more stupid than the things Peta does.

We understand it is a metaphor, but it is a stupid metaphor. When groups like PETA do things like this it is hard for them to be taken seriously. There are way more mature ways for them to spread awareness of the problems of animal fighting. Why waste their time making a flash game?

@laxbeav

What you said is exactly why I don't really like Peta. And that's the kind of opinion that makes sense. In my previous post I was talking about people who concentrate on the Pokémon part and forget (or fail to notice) the real message.

- "Let's oppose the capture of fictional monsters!" Great idea guys!
- Do they live in the real world (the same one as I do) where people can understand the difference between fiction and reality.
- Pokemon Exist Today Apparently. I'm almost certain there's medication to deal with this sort of thing.
- These creatures ARENT REAL!

You see? There're people who actually think this Peta thing is really aimed at Pokémon, and not that Peta is using Pokémon to get attention to a real problem. You and I agree that it's not a good way to raise awareness to the problem, but you must agree that people who don't realize the real message aren't very bright either.

Dear PETA

besides nobody liking you, Pokemon totally trolled you in Black and White by making the main villains, oh yeah YOU.

That's all I had to say

Lol. I never looked at it like that.

Are there any laws against putting down Peta members? Their turning feral !

They make ppl cutting their wrists look normal.

God bless South Park and their accurate depiction of them<3.

P.S

If pokemon wanted to be free I'm sure that even a caterpree could kill a human if they wanted too.

Maybe they shouldn't be dumb enough to get caught by a red and white baseball.

Sarcasm over

I knew this would happen sooner or later. I am a very strong supporter of their cause, but the methods the use to reach goal are just stupid.

I cannot take these people seriously. Do they live in the real world (the same one as I do) where people can understand the difference between fiction and reality. It doesn't seem like they do. Never more has the cliche "Get a life" been more relevant.

No one takes them seriously, this is why they create ads like this, it's just for hits.

SeraphimBlade  +   226d ago
That's right, "free them." And then euthanize them because they can't function in the wild after domestication. Yes, that is something PETA does, too, just in case you had any empathy for them.
Sketchy_Galore  +   226d ago
As a staunch vegetarian I must admit I kinda want to see PETA succeed in their quest... Just not for the reasons you might think. PETA actually seeks "total animal liberation". This means no pet dogs or cats. Not even so much as an ethical, caring dairy farm or sheep shorn for its wool. Animals given the same right and responsibility to decide their own destiny as any human being. I almost want to see that happen just so I can stand beside one of them as they see the absolute chaos that ensues and how horrific this would be for the many animals that have been bred to be unable to survive in the wild. "Gotta free em all" eh? It would be the ultimate 'I told you so'.
lizard81288  +   226d ago
Me too. They want wild animals roaming the streets just like humans. Could you imagine the Zoos just freeing their stock? Lions, Tigers, and Bears just walking down the street. Gee, I'm sure these animals won't kill anybody.

I also wonder if that means animals will have to get jobs and pay taxes (just like Humans do)...If we taxed animals, I'm sure the US could pay off some debts.

Let's hate video games that kill animals, and just not give a crap about the ones that kill innocent people. PETA you are a joke and remember reality and video games are 2 different things.

i know they go after pokemon
TiM_FeRNo  +   226d ago
Who's PETA gonna go after next? Santa Claus? I mean he keeps reindeer at the North Pole for 12 months out of the year and forces them to fly around the world in one night! PETA seems to forget about the ACTUAL animal cruelty still going on in the world.
