Apple applies for trademark protection on gaming devices

Engadget is not gonna read too much into this just yet, but when everyone's favorite fruit-flavored consumer electronics company files to protect its trademark as it relates to a wide range of gaming devices, you'd want to know. The USPTO sleuths over at Trademork just gave us the heads up on this recently-filed application from Cupertino, which requests protection of the word "APPLE" for products that classify as "toys, games and playthings, namely, hand-held units for playing electronic games; hand-held units for playing video games; stand alone video game machines; electronic games other than those adapted for use with television receivers only; LCD game machines; electronic educational game machines; toys, namely battery-powered computer games."

I'd approve this if I was able.

It's a great story, people should know about this.

I think if Apple made their own console, it would turn out to be really cool. The one thing I would worry about is them making a better, cheaper version 6 months later. Haha.

I can see an apple-designed console being very powerful and incredibly well designed....

but REALLY expensive.

I could easily see an Apple Gaming Console starting at 1,000 US Dollars.

They would compete with Sony for the High-end of the console market. You'd see all kinds of built-in stuff....slot-loading drives...big hard drives...nice selection of audio / video-input / output...media playback focus...intuitive interface...etc etc.

I can also imagine them calling it...

yeah, you guessed it....

The Apple iGame.

The portable hand-held would be the iGame Mobile, of course...lol...and it would retain all the functions of a high-end iPod, but with better specs catering towards high-performance handheld gaming, better battery, etc.

And of course the iGame would have a docking slot for the iGame Mobile...

duh, right?

Apple is so predictable, lol...

but is that a bad thing? lol All that stuff you stated sounded kinda dope, I wouldn't mind all that. :)

Soon Apple will sue you for growing apple trees.
I find weird that you can trademark words.

Unfortunately it's a "first to stake their claim wins" game. Apple already got burned on this with Apple Records UK, and with every cheap manufacturer out there making an iTowel, iBroom, etc. it's no wonder they jump on this before they even have a visible product...

Nintendo will protect Peach everywhere in toys, LCD, etc
IBM will protect International, Business and Machine everywhere in toys, LCD, etc.
Microsoft will protect Micro and Soft everywhere in toys, LCD, etc.
This world is crazy only because it is driven by greedy lawyers wishing money, money and money for nothing...
