7 Biggest Rumours This Gen That Never Happened

NowGamer: There has been a lot of rumour and gossip this gen, most of them coming true and proving there's no smoke without a fire (PlayStation Battle Royale and Gears prequel, for example).

But what of the rumours that never actually happened? NowGamer looks at the seven biggest. (Beyond Good & Evil 2, EA, Final Fantasy VII, PC, PS3, Shenmue III, Steam Console, Ubisoft, Xbox 360)

Nice list, however, I wouldn't call the Nintendo Wii Vitality Sensor a rumour as it was announced and unveiled but it just never materialised into a retail product
donbear  +   225d ago
He already said that in his article. In fact, it was in the first sentence -_-

"EA Buys Ubisoft"

Thank god that didnt happen!
NegativeCreepWA  +   225d ago
Metal Gear 4 on the 360 should really be on the list.

Agent and Final Fantasy 13 Versus are two big disappointments that come to mind. What happened to those?
Capt-FuzzyPants  +   225d ago
Are those even relevant at all to the article?

I guess people don't even read the titles anymore.

well, there has been tons of rumors about their release dates, cancellations, going multiplat and so on....

The vitality sensor would have been useful if Nintendo ever decided to make an Eternal Darkness sequel, it would measure your heart rate to dictate if you needed a scare or not and adapt the game accordingly. Sadly, it's application for games is limited.

Square Enix might as well announce a FFVII remake, since they don't finish projects people care about anymore anyway.

That last part made me laugh. It's true though, it's like they're trying to do whatever they can to alienate fans of the series.

The Xbox 360 Blu Ray rumor would have never worked. They would have had to put out two separate games, one on DVD and one on Blu Ray. That would have been a confusing mess, also when you consider that less than 20 games in the whole Xbox 360 library require more than a single disk, its not something needed this gen.

Shenmue 3 was never more than a rumor.

Sega CD style add on with its own games?

It wouldn't have been for games had it come out anyway, I think platform holders are a bit more sensible than Sega.
donbear  +   225d ago
No its not that most games didnt need more than one disc, its just that companies dumbed down their games for dvd. Thats why we get games with 4 hour campaigns this gen. Then they port that trash to ps3. Pretty lame.

That is the biggest load of crap I've ever heard. I put 120+ hours into Skyrim and that game was less than 5 gigs.

Gears Of War 3 was around a 13 hour campaign alone. Your buying into the whole Sony fanboy reasoning.

Nobody gimped anything, if something was too big, they would just split it up into more disks.

Aw, Shenmue III. *sniff*

Looking on how successful the Yakuza series is doing, Sega might see Shenmue as a step backwards or not appealing to today's audiences. I do know that at least twice, developers and the creator himself said they wanted to do it. There was also supposed to be Shenmue online.

To be able to play as Ryu again and walk down the streets of Japan. Ah, memories.

Yugioh for PS3 was rumored a few years ago.And it never happened. And I was pissed! At least they should make one for PS Vita.

The 'MGS4 going to 360' rumour should be on the list, that circled around almost as long as the FF7 remake had.
PirateThom  +   225d ago
Every week for a year, it was definitely coming. There was one site in particular that was CONVINCED it was happening...

Then the teasers with a green power button and MGS4 IS DEFINITELY COMING TO 360.

I think that just broke people when it was a game based on MGS4 for iPhone and it all stopped at that point.

Odd.

Beating a dead horse has to stop at some point. But I am a bit surprised it never went multiplat, same for Splinter cell: Conviction. Makes me wonder how much cash has to be shelled out to keep third party titles exclusive.
PirateThom  +   225d ago
I'm not surprised MGS4 never went multiplatform, when you play that game it had to use a lot of the PS3's features just to work.
Philoctetes  +   225d ago
Yeah, I expected to see MGS4 to 360 somewhere on this list.
tweet75  +   225d ago
hey this current gen isnt over yet we can still get all of the above
rataranian  +   225d ago

TopDudeMan  +   225d ago
