The Dreamcast still lives through digital platforms

With Jet Grind Radio, Sonic Adventure 2 and Re-Volt all being brought back from the dead and released on digital platforms this month, it’s certainly a great time for us SEGA Nerds. Heck, it’s almost like the Dreamcast is still around, right? Well, not so much, but while we’re still impatiently waiting for Shenmue 1 and 2 to be re-released, we started wondering how many Dreamcast games are available on digital platforms today.

We were actually quite surprised to find that nearly 30 Dreamcast games are now available to be purchased digitally. We wanted to create a living list that will always be updated when new games are released so you can know where to go to get your Dreamcast fix.

The following list shows each game, when it was originally released on the Dreamcast, what platforms it’s available on today and when it was re-released. Clicking the platform links will take you to the game on the digital platform where you can purchase it. (Android, Arcade, iPad, iPhone, PC, PS Vita, PS3, PSP, Retro, Sega, Wii, Xbox 360)

The metal slug games are my favorite to play while waiting in line on my psp. Good old fashion arcade action.

I often wonder what innovations Sega would've developed if they were still in the console business. I can see why the Dreamcast was their final console swansong. It was quite the innovative console machine.

The only issue I had with the Dreamcast was their choice in media disc. The GD-ROM was horrible. One insignificant, barely visible, spec of a scratch on the label side of the disc could corrupt the disc, making it unplayable.

It's good to see the games live on through digital form. Scratch free.

Its not the same though, which is why I'm still a proud owner of a Dreamcast and VGA cables.
MadMax  +   1218d ago
Yea, same here. Gotta have the console and that memory card with screen is a classic!!! Dreamcast was and still is my all time favorite console and I'm going back to Atari. Still have a grip of original games and my Dreamcast is a launch one! Still works perfect, something these new consoles could learn from. Blue Stinger was classic!

I stil have my dreamcast and still turn it on every now and then. It is ashame sega pulled out the market as the dreamcast had some of the best games of last gen.
hellvaguy  +   1218d ago
People just need to get over it. (Like that hot ex-gf that left you for your best friend). It's been over a decade since the lackluster sales of the dreamcast forced sega out of the business.

You can still buy all those quirky/odd duck games digitially until your little heart broken bodies explode with nostalgia.

We already know this, grumpy. Go darken some other forum.

RE-volt was Awesome. I'm glad people haven't forgotten the Dream Cast.
MacUser1986  +   1218d ago
Most of those games are incorrect.

1. The Daytona USA HD released was the Saturn game.

2. Soul Reaver released was the PS1 version.

3. Quake 3 Arena is not the game released on XBLA.

4. MDK 2 was not exclusive to the Dreamcast it came out on PC and PS2.

5. Code Veronica was also not exclusive but was released on PS2 and GameCube.

The DC still lives period. Hardware and software format.
Sega should open up a network for Phantasy Star Online Dreamcast again so I can play more of it.
bitloaders  +   1216d ago
You can still play PSO online through Schthack's private server, but it's only for the PC now.
rataranian  +   1216d ago
It's cool that this exists and I hope it does well. But they recently shut down the sega servers on pc to get ready for 2. I want to play it through the DC for the nostalgic feeling. Good eye though.
