Black Ops 2 Developer: Gun Design Is ‘F—ing Hard’

Wonder how much attention Treyarch is putting into online feedback from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 fans? A lot. But just because people are very passionate about a subject doesn’t mean it’s going to influence their decision about design, especially if the numbers are saying otherwise. Just ask Treyarch’s David Vondehaar. (Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Dev, PC, PS3, Treyarch, Wii U, Xbox 360)

well the call of duty games have certainly better designs than most modern war shooters its not by coincidence Call of Duty´s are hard to miss.

Then i look at games like Medal of Honor Warfighter and i see the lack of interest just by looking at it!

graphics doesnt make it look good! designs are very important to make the game appeling to a certain audience.

Make one gun that shoot fast but weak?
Make another that shoot slow but strong?

All they have to do is take real guns...and give them attributes

Just read the title of this story and now I think I understand why the game play is mostly unchanged over the last few games. I mean if weapon design is f-ing hard then gameplay must be a f-ing nightmare!

Yeah, real hard when you re-hash guns or base them off already established designs...

Give me a break.

I can think of like 40 guns off the top of my head that would be awesome and totally unique. This guy has no imagination, which doesn't surprise me with COD involved.

Do you think any other FPS developers are having a hard time coming up with weapon designs? What a joke. He makes mediocre changes to weapons already established and sits there stumped still...

And sarcasm aside- yeah, I should take his job. Apparently he's having a hard time doing it.

Even Modders find it easy to do, I've seen some pretty original modded guns in fallout.

Pretty funny how many people obviously didn't actually read the article. He says GAME design (not gun design) is hard, and he's referring to balancing gun attachments, perks, etc. and how difficult it can be to make everybody happy.
