Cracking Down on LPs Hinders the Game Industry

"In case you’ve lived under a rock for the past six years, let me explain what LPs are before starting. They are a collection of videos, screenshots, or other media of a game coupled with commentary from the player. Said player can focus on providing a walkthrough, making fun of the game, or use it as a blogging medium—each form is considered LPing. Recently a major developer for Mojang made a blog post dedicated to glorifying LPers and their free advertising—however, this view does not belong to the majority."

(From the article) "The problem, to them, is that collections of an entire video sequence of a game (rather than just a few clips) is equivalent to copying and spreading the game—after all, they programmed the game and made its visuals, so they should control where it shows up, right? Wrong."

If that's the case, remove speedrun videos, "how to," and even Reviews from the internet as well; I can't stand sites and companies who swear its "wrong" to post game footage on the internet. Broken street dates I can understand, however someone can argue "how to" or "review" and can get away with it.

LPing with criticism or a walkthrough is completely legal.

And to think that LPs will make people not buy a game (other than because they can see that the game sucks) is idiotic.

why do you think it's capcom and other big names that are angry?

because ppl WILL see that the game sucks... they don't want that, they want ppl blindly buying it... if you hate the game after that, it's ok, they already have your money anyway...

Lol i remember when LP meant a big vinyl donut that had music on it.

I'm not even dignifying this site with a click-through. Quite possibly the most idiotic article I've seen on N4G in awhile.
