Hearthfire for PC is Pointless

Leviathyn.com | I think the idea behind this DLC is awesome. In RPGs, especially the Elder Scrolls series, I really get into the whole homestead idea. It’s nice to have a place for your character to store loot with accessible tools like crafting benches or enchanting tables. I like the added roleplaying dimension of having followers and spouses staying with you at your house. I know that many players don’t care about the housing part of Skyrim, and care even less about DLC that allows more customization.

dlc on pc of any kind is pointless, we can just make new levels and share them with friends

this is how pc has always been

a big FU@K YOU to bethesda and your horse armor, you ruined gaming forever

LAWSON724214d ago

Some ppl don't use mods and user created content.

Saryk4214d ago

Here is a catch 22 for PC. If devs make the game open, it will sell on PC. But by making it open users will create content that will compete with the devs additional content. I see a potential problem if a number cruncher (accounting) tells a suit (management).

Ducky4214d ago (Edited 4214d ago )

Flip side, someone creates a mod that makes more people buy your game.

DayZ boosted Arma2 sales (and people bought the Arma2 DLC too because it was required for DayZ)
HalfLife had CounterStrike and TeamFortress (and many more)
Stalker, which was initially a bit flawed, become amazing with the user-created mods.
... that, and Bethesda's DLC sales haven't been that bad on PC.

So sales of the DLC won't really suffer that much. What does suffer are the sales of a sequel if it is released quickly. Hard to release a shooter annually when your playerbase isn't bored with the previous installment.

Saryk4214d ago

I agree that there are some games that benefit with the mods. And I am 100% about open PC gaming and love the additional content. But I have seen some games DLC more expensive than the original game. So I am just hoping they don’t close the openness of the PC. Hell I don’t know what I am complaining about. I own enough games that I haven’t played to keep me busy for several years (no BS).But I don't want the PC to become a console in that regard.

Skyrim “Special Edition” - What’s so special about it?

"With having no internet at the moment I’ve had a chance to go back through my steam library and play games I wouldn’t normally go back and play, and Skyrim is one of them. With the new remaster, and no modding capabilities while I’m offline, what better way to experience the game than the “Vanilla Deluxe” version."

I got the game for free on pc and I have over 200 mods installed (many of which I converted myself from the original Skyrim). Within 120 hours of gameplay I've only had 4-5 crashes (always mod related)and it looks beautiful. Even on my monster rig the original skyrim crashed regularly with half the mods I have now and it didn't look as good or run as well. I'm more than happy with the remaster.

KingAlistair2688d ago

i have 600+ mods installed for my cousin, cleaned every dirty edit, ugrid 11 and never had a crash in 100 hours,ulta/4k/110+ fps unlocked.Looks massively better than the remaster.

hirobrotagonist2688d ago

Is there no mod limit in the SE? Also, what are your pc specs if you're getting that FPS with mods? I have a pretty beastly system and my FPS took a big dive with all the mods I'm running and I even dropped down to 1080p. Also, isn't ugrids 11 extremely unreliable and causes a ton of glitches related to NPC AI behavior?

KingAlistair2688d ago (Edited 2688d ago )

Sli asus 1080s oc,i7 5820k 4,4 ghz,32 gb ram.Its close to 600 last time i checked ugrids first at 7,9 and were stable.11 also seem stable, but i have the game for my cousin and brother.Havent seen any weird npc behaviour.Graphics mods i use are the usual such as DynDOLOD,climates of tamriel, folra overhaul, grass on steroids, parallax etc.Gonna try noble skyrim at some time.No aa,just reshade. http://www.nexusmods.com/sk...

AndreR2688d ago

It looks better than the original. It is obvious.

Perjoss2688d ago

Its full fat 4k on the pro, its pretty special looking to be honest.

KingAlistair2688d ago

For console players. For pc,2-3 out of 10 unmodded.

Hearthfire:

"The DLC adds nothing to the game except for the ability to build your own house."

For $5 you could build a house in a number of ways, you could include forges, enchanting tables etc so that crafting/alchemy could conveniently be done all in one place, you could adopt children, you could keep a pet, you could turn followers into stewards, you had a carriage driver who would take you to more places than any other carriage service, you could bake/beekeep/farm and fish (which were great if you had a survival mod), and your house would often be attacked and you'd have to defend it.

You could also use it, as most people did, as a central location to store all of your items, display them on weapon/armour racks, and a place to sleep (again, good for survival mods).

So yeah, 'nothing' but all of that.

aquaticDonut2939d ago

Most of that is present in the normal houses in game.

ColonelHugh2939d ago (Edited 2939d ago )

Uh no, most of those things are not present in vanilla homes. Without Hearthfire, you can't have children, pets of all kinds, or unique resource farms. Half of the vanilla houses are also very cramped. You can craft a fully decked out crafting home, loot and trophy home, or a comfy home, or a mix thereof.

nitus102939d ago

Actually your house would often be attacked, however you would only be attacked when you were there to defend it.

Likewise if you had the Dawnguard DLC it was possible that some of the NPC's would be attacked and/or tuned by vampires only if you were in town. Basically if you could not defend some of the NPC's then you may end up with most of the shops being shut-down.

The only DLC I really liked was Dragonborn since you had a large island to explore and some quests which would mainly be limited to Skyrim are now expanded to cover Solstheim as well.

I actually made a bad mistake installing all three DLC's and about sixty hours in (PS3) I found bugs appearing in the game which made me restart with just the Dragonborn DLC.

TheCommentator2939d ago

The notorious "Horse Armor Pack", lol.

Four Things Wrong With Skyrim

Skyrim is an amazing and wonderful game. However, now that the excitement has been set aside after all these years, there are things that need improvement.

Main thing I hated about Skyrim was despite the fact the world was so open they couldn't do the same when you enter a town.

You know how annoying it is go through one loading screen after another when you are roaming around a town. All the doors should of been open so you could go in and out without trouble. Would of made the Restoring the Thieves Guild quests easier.

Oh and a pet hate was how all the tombs and dungeons featured Draugr. They could of mixed it up more, where were the normal Zombies from past games, add more Skeletons, ghosts etc
