My Addiction To Xbox 360 Achievements and PSN Trophies

Jewi of Ludos-Mundi.com writes:

I have a confession to make: I am an addict.I am addicted to Xbox 360 achievements and PSN Trophies, but soon I will be completely clean.

Achievements for Xbox 360, or PSN Trophies or gamerscore, are a genius invention designed to keep obsessive players glued to a game. It manipulates them, driving them for hours just for the satisfaction of hearing a *pling* followed by a message informing them that they have earned “20 points for collecting the 1000th potato!” (PS3, Xbox 360)

Same here. I'm just about Level 13 (12 with 98%) lol. I'm starting to care less about them though. What ever happened to the reward system they were going to put out for that? Would be more people trying.

I have got level 14, 28%. For some reason, 13 was really hard.

Never read this before.

"Trophies vs achievements"
"Have achievements/trophies ruined gaming?"
"Top 10 easiest/hardest achievements/trophies"
"Honey, I shrunk the trophies/achievements"
etc etc yada yada bla bla bla hitz hitz hitz...

True enough, it's probably one of the best things they made this generation when it comes to gaming, IMO. So many games that would of been a quick 5 hour single player turn into 40+ hours replaying for trophies (like the PSN title Malicious) and the RPGs/JRPGs last even longer than usual.

So even though they are addicting, they really do give games replay value to them. I just ***REALLY*** hope that when the next generation arrives that they keep the trophies you've earned from this generation to carry to the next. I also hope they make a reward system, like if you plat say... Dragon's Dogma 2 then you will earn an exclusive PS3 theme/avatar or something to that degree, just like how they did with FFXIII.

Good article.

That's why I love them, what would be a 5 hour game gets extended to a 19 hour game; eg: Mafia 2 which took me 3 attempts to get the posters due to glitches.

I didnt care that much about trophies in the beggining if at all. After i got gamefly & i play a new game every week i actually like trophies/achievos casue it gives you a nice history to be able to scroll through, plus I really enjoy being able to see where friends are in games i know what not to say about plot points depending on where they are in the game.
