Silent Hill: Book of Memories for PS Vita: A New Angle on Silent Hill

Posted by Jeff Rubenstein // Sr. Social Media Manager -

I’ve got a gaming confession to make: I’ve never played a Silent Hill game. Never really had much of an interest in the series, even… until now. Silent Hill: Book of Memories is a Survival Horror Action-RPG coming to PS Vita later this month. Like chocolate and peanut butter, this is a mashup I can get into. After sampling the game at PAX Prime, I met up with the game’s producer, Tomm Hewlett, in San Francisco to find out how Konami plans to please fans of both genres. Yeah, fun game. I just wish they change the title since it's misleading. I had more fun in this little demo compared to Diablo 3, which is really sad.

IDK if i can agree with that one.. Diablo 3 was an awesome dungeon crawler to me.. I know a lot of ppl were pissed cuz of the whole staying online to play things but the overall game was really fun.. This is good but does have its flaws.. Im still getting this tho, i love the gore & weapon upgrades

I thought it was a big giant turd to be honest and another stain on the Silent Hill franchise.
Voice acting was very cheesy and I hate the stereotypes you play as such as "goth" or "jock".
The soundtrack was very bland.
Puzzles were boring.
Spamming the X button around every room to find a key was annoying as hell.
The boss battle was rubbish and played like a game made in the 90s using cheap fire attacks.
The part where Valtiel handed me a giant meat cleaver to fight the boss was the last straw for me.

I hated it, not SH at all!

its a spin off by wayforward & they make some great games... Its not a sequel or prequel to any of the other titles.. This is a dungeon crawler, not survival horror.. I could understand if it were a sequel but its not.. I think its cool as hell.. The title is book of memories & takes place as a dream so all kinds of crazy things occur..

I know.

While this game is nothing like silent hill.... it's pretty damn fun. I don't know why they'd use the silent hill name for this when they could have just created a new ip.

New IPs, especially on hardware that hasn't... set the world on fire is risky. Sometimes it's easier to slap an existing franchise onto a new genre to, at least, attract attention.

I have no doubt this started off as something else.

You make too much sense. Bubs up.

Demo was surprisingly decent...
I'll wait on reviews, but I can see myself buying it at some point. It's just that my Vita has higher priorities right now, what with Dokuro, Liberation and Zero Escape on the horizon.

I very much enjoyed the demo; the rpg elements are pretty cool.

I hate the lighting, or lack thereof it... I can't stand games that put u in such dark areas that you gotta squint to see anything.

Just played this last night. It's not your standard Silent Hill affair, but it's not meant to be either. It's a really fun game that I'll be getting the day it comes out. :)

I didnt even know there was a demo. I will have to try it when I get my Vita on the 30th.
