Rising Star Games to ditch English voices in Virtue’s Last Reward

"Well this is a bit disappointing. After we praised Aksys Games’ decision to ship Virtue’s Last Reward with dual languages – English and Japanese – it turns out publishers Rising Star Games are only including Japanese voices in the European version of the game (with English subtitles)." (3DS, Culture, Nintendo DS, PS Vita, Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward)

Thats stupid as hell.. To save a quick buck, make a game less enjoyable? smh.. So do they need to give voice actors royalties from each region? u would think they get a flat percentage of all units sold.. Sorry Europe 3DS owners.. I downloaded the demo on vita & the voices sound great.. Not cheap.. Anyone whos played tales of vesperia, a lot of those voice actors are in this

That's cool, English voice overs are often really bad.

When they are done well it's great, but if they aren't done right, It can be unbearable.

Going by the Vita demo, the English voice overs were great.

Well that's unfortunate then, I hadn't heard them so I was just going off past experience.

I had to chime in because not only were the voice actors quite good I am going to get this game. Totally sold on the genre. I know this is a one and done to replay with different outcomes but I thoroughly enjoyed the demo even more than the Silent hill demo this week. For those on the fence depending on the price this looks like a day 1.

But why? The english voices are already recorded and are in the North american version of the game. Why would they take them out?

Its not a big problem if you are getting the vita version. Just buy the american version instead.

Feel sorry for European 3ds users however.

I played the Vita demo and every thing sounded great when it ca,e to the voice work. Sucks for you guys in Europe. But if you have a Vita you can always import it since the Vita is region-free.

People play Japanese games in English by choice?
Hicken  +   563d ago
Some people do. I like to at least hear how they sound, though I tend to play with the Japanese voices where available. ATLUS, NIS, and other such games generally (with a few exceptions) have good voice acting, so I don't mind them in English. I prefer the English cast in the BlazBlue games, as well, though there's nothing wrong with the Japanese cast(fell in love with Cristina Vee as Noel).

It really just depends.

Glad to see some people here appreciate good English voice acting. Usually when I read comments, English voice acting is bad by default and the Japanese VA's are held in high regards.

I can understand why people prefer the Japanese language when the content is related to Japanese culture, that makes sense to me. When anime/games with a Western influences are trashed for not speaking Japanese, that I have a problem with...unless the voice acting is really terrible. Cowboy Bebop and Trigun are two good examples of excellent Western influenced anime with great English voice acting.

I actually like reading txt. That way I can reread if it's a lot and digest at my own pace. That and most voice acting is garbage. I don't mind the japanese
