Anyone that has ever played multiplayer on Call of Duty would know that despite the games popularity it has always been flawed. After progressing to the top level the plays has been ‘awarded’ with the option to gain access to a new icon but loose all progress they have made on. After the player got themselves to a point where they have everything just the way they wanted; all of that progress was taken away from them if they wished to show off their skills and playtime with a new prestige icon. In other words, once you’ve reached the top, you are kicked straight back down to the bottom to do it all over again. Now that’s the kind of repetitive gameplay that gets a little old year after year; players can only get to the top spot so many times to have all their rewards taken away and it gets boring. Now, that old prestige system has been gutted and replaced with a system that won’t penalize players for reaching the top in the upcoming release, Black Ops II. Sounds great doesn’t it?
EDIT: I got tired from cod after MW2, I still buyed BO after half a year (used), and then MW3 brand new, and I sold it after a month.. I think BO2 I will not even look into.. (that far I did play COD a lot and was a fanboy with max prestige and played well one of those who spend countless hours with him and kicked your ass..) now I dislike it and want something fresh, new gameplay mechanics more, bigger maps.. less automated stuff, more mature!
@donbear ps3 owners only play 3 games as a majority. That's football, basketball, CoD. Of course there are other games in the mix but if u look at the top games played on ps3, it will be madden, CoD, NBA.
@Tvensky, people play CoD for the upbeat tempo of the game and easy pickup for novice players. It caters to everyone that likes action games. Not for authenticity. CoD is the present day unreal tournament. Yesterday's counter strike. People play it for competition and for the enjoyment of a great game in your hands. You can be tired of it all you want. A lot of people didn't get into CoD until black ops. So it's still pretty fresh. I've played every CoD game that's come out. The franchise has had it's ups and downs but its on the rise. Whether you compare it's success by sales, quality or innovation, it will succeed. CoD is very comparable to Apple. It has its haters but they do NOT outweigh the fans that love the Seires.
Still on the fence with this game but I have to give them credit for even getting me to that point. Zombies look interesting and I did get a lot out of combat training on the first Black Ops when friends and family are over so that being expanded is nice for me.
