Ubisoft predicts opportunities to pair microtransactions with $60 games

Future Ubisoft games could offer in-game purchases after taking an initial $60 chomp of your wallet. GamesBeat says during an investor call, Ubisoft CFO Alain Martinez and Worldwide Online Director Stéphanie Perotti acknowledged the “flexibility” of free-to-play business models and the “opportunity” for full-priced games offering microtransactional items.

If this works and become standard on consoles I will cry.

All that needs to happen is cod doing it first.

Sony did it with Uncharted 3 multiplayer and it worked out well. I just hope Ubisoft or any other game company could take it to the next level and incorporate it into the single-player.

For example, If im playing Kingdom hearts 3. It would be pretty cool if I could buy 99 potions for $5 or raise my character level by 1 for $10. That would be really cool.

Dead Space has been that way since day one, so it's hardly unheard of.

Edit: Rainbow Moon also had a lot of microtransaction add-ons, but that one is a little different. Nobody can possibly argue that Rainbow Moon wasn't a tremendous value for $15, and I could see somebody buying one of the XP packs just to say thanks to the developer.

@mika....erm how is it cool to pay full price for a game..then pay more just to level up or get some potions i just dont get it in the slightest. i dont mind some single player dlc that actually adds quite a bit and is blatantly not ripped from the whole game such as red dead undead nightmare but that is few and far between...sorry im just shocked by how you think this is cool maybe you should stick to farmville

I predict I will find opportunities not to buy games that do this.

I can see some positives then I can see some very very very bad negatives charging for continues maybe even charging for hints to certain puzzles O.o

or something "ohhh here is a hidden door a dollar to access" O.o

then they will rack up the requirements to learn certain moves or powers with the easier option of paying 5 dollars to buy it O.o

then will come the companies saying that these purchasable in-game items do not in anyway affect the actual game-play or story meanwhile you have a guy whose been playing 40+ hours at level 35 while the guy who got the "Super bonus plus experience pass" is level 55 in has been playing 9 hours
