Go Critic: The video games industry has risen from its modest roots as a simple pizza shop distraction in the 80’s, and has become one of the strongest money making industries on the planet. Earnings continue to skyrocket year after year, leading some analysts to speculate on its “recession-proof” appeal, similar to the movie and music industries. Since 2009, Activision-Blizzard’s Call of Duty series has consistently broken earnings records for interactive media, and media in general. The latest installment, Modern Warfare 3, raked in $400 million dollars on its launch day, breaking the series’ own record of being the biggest entertainment launch of all time. It’s hailed as the best in its genre (first-person shooter) by many critics, and shows no signs of slowing.
