Yes we are. Through metro -__-
Metro has horribly dumbed down the Windows GUI. Why on Earth would they get rid of the start menu and over-complicate things with forcing you to make a bunch of dumb tiles to use your programs. It's excess time you don't need to be spending and it's just adding more bloat. Experienced users will stick with 7 or a way to put back in the start button and get rid of Metro.
one click (maybe two), haven't booted into 8 in a while simply because I haven't moved all my programs over, gets you everything that was on the start menu. OMFG THAT IS THE BIGGEST DEAL IN THE WORLD! THEY MOVED MAH BUTTON. BETTER GET ON THE INTERNET AND COMPLAIN ABOUT SOMETHING THAT IS REALLY SILLY! Seriously it is not hard to find what you need. If it takes you more than ten minutes to figure out the new UI and where everything is, you are most definitely not a "POWER USER". It literally took me 5 minutes to figure everything out and I like it a lot.
Looking forward to Windows 9 to turn things back to normal.
Forced metro is the only real issue for the user , otherwise it's still an improved and faster win 7 .
The desktop is still there. If you don't want to use metro, you barely have to. Just for things that you would rarely use the start button for anyway. I agree on the improvements and it being faster. Everything is faster. I have it dual booting on my machine. It takes my 7 boot over a minute. 8 takes less than 20 seconds. I download, install, and boot games twice as fast or more on the exact same hardware.... How can people hate this? I just can't comprehend how people can hate it when it works so much better than 7.
I find that once I learn the new things, I am far more efficent with Windows 8. The insanely increased performance is a huge win too. Windows 8 uses so much less resources, and so much faster it is shame some will be stuck with Windows 7. In a year or two, they will all be using a rebadged Windows 8 as 9 and lovin it! Just like how they hated Windows Vista, and clinging to Windows 7.
As someone who hates having icons on my desktop, aside from my object dock, this interface irritates me like none other.
Same here. The only icons that I do have have on the desktops are the My Computer and the Recycle Bin. The only app/widget that I have on there is Rainlendar to help me organize things. I've seen some of my friends' PCs/laptops and their desktops are full of icons, shortcuts and Office documents.
I think you guys are missing something. Windows 8 has the option to switch to classic dashboard with start menu and everything. So that kind of makes your argument mute. Metro isn't forced in any way, it's just a new option and I actually kind of like it.
Unless it was just recently added to the retail build , no you can't . There is a reason many of us beta and preview testers used unnoficial apps and cracks to have somewhat a classic start menu . So far it has been that or at best Windows can create toolbars that show the contents of a folder on its taskbar , in a way that's reminiscent of it , but quite not the same . PS : FYI so far i dont mind metro . I mostly used and still use taskbars instead of going back and forth to a start menu , so it didnt change my habit . If anything i always found counter productive to be navigating through those silly sub categories of the start menu to get anywhere . At least the metro menu gives you full screen fully customizable instant look and access . And its quick to drop out of it , go into it . The major mistakes of it remain the sheer idiocy of Metro default choice of apps and feature to display in Metro , since many wont bother customizing it at first .
How stable does the Beta seem thus far? I was honestly fearing another repeat of Vista. It seems like Windows OS is only successful every-other entry.
even the early build of the beta were quite stable . So far on every win 7 and 8 beta versions , i have mostly experienced a few graphical glitches , that mostly had to do with softwares and prog compatibility . Just wait for the retail version , already out via unofficial channels and soon officially anyway . If you can stand Metro (or get rid of it) , it's pretty much Win 7 on steroids , very stable and fast
Alright. Thank you.
Yes you can still switch to classic. try again
Hmm yeah I hated Windows 8 when I first saw it but I tried out the RTM version and it's really really fast and all my games work on it too.
Indeed. I think all the haters are the bandwagon type. I hate MS so I will dog their new OS because I heard some things on the internet, but I haven't tried it myself. Better head to N4G, and let the 'world' know how terrible it is, even though I have never used it! Some people need to crawl back in to their caves. My only complaint with Windows 8 so far is logging off and shutting down, other than that, Windows 8 is lightning fast and I can get used to the little bit of moving around they did. To put it simply, it is as if though they rearranged the furniture in a house. Everything is still there, you just have to get used to where it was put.
Yeah good comparison all they did was that. The shutting down does take a few more clicks but overall I really don't mind it.
i have the windows 8 professional retail copy i got it legit thru my job and let me tell you. at first i hated windows 8, but once u start using it, it will grow on you so fast now i would never go back to windows 7. it is much better
I have to agree. Windows 8 imo is far better in than any other Windows OS I have used and I have been using them since Windows 95. I have it running on a 3 year old Acer laptop that has 4GB of ram and a intel centrino that I though run well with Windows 7 but after putting Windows 8 on it the laptop performance is a lot better. My company is only made up of 4 people and 2 others have decided to upgrade to Windows 8 and they have notices a big improvement in speed and how much more stable the OS is too. One of them like me uses the new start menu as it is quicker to open programs ect via it than it was on Windows 7 because of the way you can set it out and the other guy who has it dose not even touch the start menu as he has setup a short cut to programs on the Old desktop and if you right click on the left hand bottom corner of the screen everything else is accessible for there. Windows 8 will have its haters just like any other software or hard ware but I think MS have done a very good job with it for using on touch and none touch devices. I think once Windows 8 is shipped with its new hardware designed around the OS I think it will improve the OS even more as devices like the MS Surface and HP's Tablet/Laptop looks amazing.
Cracked copy for me. Not paying a dime for Windows.
And you feel justified in that by what reason? The stuff on the net should be free? You hate Microsoft? It is not really stealing? File sharing is something everyone does? Piracy is a victimless crime? Whatever the reason, as long as you realize you are stealing, then at least you're not lying to yourself.
He forgot that after you certify and put it on the marketplace Microsoft will help themselves to 30% of your profits
Newp, it's a desktop app, MS only takes 30% from metro apps.
I apologise, I was wrong thanks for correcting me
