Rumor: Retro Studios is Working on Game Engines for Wii U

GenGAME writes: " A connected source told us that Retro Studios has been charged with creating game engines for Wii U and helping other developers implement them. While we didn’t get any specifics on what exactly 'other developers' means, our source commented that Retro’s work involves both internal and external projects. The icing on the cake? Apparently Retro showed off their Wii U magic to Epic Games and got them to reconsider bringing Unreal Engine 4 to the system." (Retro Studios, Unreal Engine 4, Wii U)

Hopefully

Retro are masters at maximizing Nintendo hardware for visuals. Factor 5 wasn't too shabby either.
ZeekQuattro  +   665d ago
Damn shame about Factor 5. They bet on the wrong horse.
Ricdog  +   665d ago

Is Unreal Engine 4 Good or bad. How does it benefit pros and cons on Unreal Engine 4. If its that good then great :D.
If not then D: wow really!?

If Epic games is impressed with the next Gen capabilities of the Nintendo Wii U entertainment system, then even I have underestimated its sheer graphical prowess. Epic is a forward thinking high end development studio that is always seeking out the latest greatest tech. It brightens my day to know they are in talks to bring their talents to the Nintendo product line.

Retro must have shown some groundbreaking futuristic tech to receive so much praise. I and many other Nintendo Elite gamers are looking forward to their big reveal.

Damn your positive thinking! lol i have no choice but to agree.. Im getting closer to thinking nintendo is changing their ways & wanting to open up to new software opportunities.. I remain neutral on my standing about this console however, things are looking good... I hope this information is accurate

Besides the Nintendo Wii entertainment system that took a different road from what's considered normal. Nintendo brand console offerings have always offered a more standard high powered platform. This is no different from what us Nintendo gamers have grown accustom to in the past.

All we can do at this point in time is be patient. Nintendo has shown a hard push for 3rd party support, new control functions for complete battlefield control at all times, and I am sure AAA exclusive offerings will arrive. As they always do. And now for the 1st time the Nintendo brand is serious about online connectivity. I see nothing to worry about.

That's kind of cool if it is indeed true, but I hope it doesn't get in the way of Retro actually developing their own games. They are one of Nintendo's best developers, after all.

Retro Studios the Naughty Dog of Nintendo!!!
BigStef71  +   665d ago
For the people that disagreed I don't understand why you did. I gave Retro Studios a compliment by saying they are a great studio like Naughty Dog
Chidori  +   664d ago
Yeah I'm not sure why people would disagree. This is exactly what I been saying ever since the Wii U was announced and Nintendo taking a step in to the HD era of gaming. Retro will be doing what Naughty Dog have done and WILL continue to do with The Last of Us on the Ps3.

I really can't wait to see what they are working on for the Wii U.

We don't need another Rare incident..

and knowing Retro, they would be the best studio to "help" other studios with the Wii U. for sure, Retro's got a lot up in their sleeves with how the Wii U works. and spreading the love to other studios would greatly benefit not only Retro and Nintendo, but the other studios as well.

now let's just hope Retro's cooking up something on their own. can't wait to hear some new game news from Retro.

Well said man! One has to wonder what it is that Retro Studios up to. I was totally bummed when Rare left to Microsoft, but was pleasantly surprised that Retro was able to make both the Prime series and DKC, for the Wii in such good taste... I have no doubt in my mind that Retro is doing something epic for the Wii U.

Retros engine that they showed epic was prob better than ue4 my guess.

This engine will be for 3rd partys cant wait for the name of this engine and a tech demo at E3 2013 with a slew of games 1st and 3rd party games as well wow its obvious Nintendo is saving Stafox/Zelda/Metroid/Fzero/Wav erace/Eternal Darkness 2/Mariokart/ConceptGP,ect for E32013 to battle with Sony/Microsoft.

Im gonna be backing Nintendo DX11 comparable graphics and compute shaders, shader model 5.0,HD/3D,Eyefinity, and 32/64 mb of EDRAM wow in the custom Gpgpu cant wait.

Basically even if the cpu could be equal ps3 and with a gpgpu that powerful it would still be 6 times the power of ps3 fue to modern tech and a gpgpu being able to take like 50% of the work load off the cpu wiiu is a beast.

Can't wait. I remember a job offering they had posted about looking for an artist to do hand painted textures. Whatever they're working on, it must be beautiful!
