If you want flash rather than hardcore excellence in your fighter, this is the game for you. Best played in tag mode with mates, not solo in the duff story mode.
Funny, I love fighting games and sure doa5 isn't as "technical" as virtua fighter But it's not as ridged and stiff either. This guy thinks street fighter is technical? People on fighters will always mash buttons. But if you have skill doa5 can be very fun. I love counters and parrys. Streetfighter and mvc aren't more complex it's HOW you play it.
Street Fighter IS technical . Dead of Alive just is in its own unique way . What i can't agree with in reviews are stuff like that : "It isn't hardcore, it isn't even a big step up from DOA4." Yes it is a big step up given the amount of changes to it . SF4 changed what from the original formula ? Focus Attacks Ultras Different combo system/mechanics Easy Inputs 4 New Characters with unique playstyles Doa5 brings what to its formula ? Power Blow Different combo system/mechanics Easy inputs 5 new and unique playstyles So why are people going "meh its the same" when they conveniently want to put down a fighting game is beyond me . It's supposed , as a franchise's sequel , with already a fanbase , to be the same yet bringing something new . They did . "If you want flash rather than hardcore excellence in your fighter, this is the game for you." WTF would CVG (and gamespot) knows about substance in fighting games to begin with ? They dont even have a decent fighting game player in their staff to begin with . And release previews , videos and reviews chokeful of factual errors and omissions when it comes to fighting games . It's too easy making a living repeating crap you heard elsewhere as a fact
I think streetfighter CAN be technical. But It can be a spam fest just as easily. It's really how you approach it. It's how it's played and who's playing. Very insightful.
exactly baka, they dont even like fighters so i dont know wtf they are talking about. My friend plays SSF4 hardcore, he goes to tournaments, I pick up the game for the first time, use Makoto and own him 5 matches straight, I didnt know my moves, I strategically button mashed, (sorta like use commands from other fighting games and use normal attacks as i learn the character) so yeah, to me Doa can be technical, but only at higher level play. the game changed so much, from its presentation, moves, new characters, crazy enviorments that no other fighting game has, power blows etc. cant wait to go get this game and play with my fiance till i go back to work!
@ lucretia "My friend plays SSF4 hardcore, he goes to tournaments, I pick up the game for the first time, use Makoto and own him 5 matches straight, I didnt know my moves, I strategically button mashed" Bullshit detected. A. Your friend is not "hardcore" if he looses to button mashing. B. Makoto...mash....does not compute... pick one. (should ofsaid ryu to make the story sound more plausible) C. Made up story is made up. Lol, lying about your anecdotal evidence so you can shit on SF4 and somehow validate how comparably shallow it is like DOA5. I personally like DOA5 and will probably check it out at a later date, but lets not pretend that this franchise isn't very entry level in terms of skill requirement. It definitely has some nuance but ultimately you're kidding yourself if you think its on the level of SF4/VF5:FS/TTT2. Also, boobs.
Not to mention the time between SF3 and DOA4.
This is exactly why I love Tekken. No way for button masher to own pro player.
eddie gordo and the x/o buttons say hi.......
If you're falling for that then you are simply not very good at Tekken. You can mash it but you won't beat pro player this way. The same stands with VF.
Eddie in the hands of a beginner is even easier to counter . Sure they'll do nonsensical and unpredictable stuff with him ... but "sadly" for them very easy to punish with low and mid hits . Eddy Gordo's mashable 3,4 combos are terribly slow. People who lose to that don't need to play fighters because low parrying slow-as-hell low sweeps in Tekken, and then punishing with a juggle is about as easy and basic as it gets . If anything , if you have issues ,beginners Eddie are the proof you have a bad defense and read badly your opponent You dont even even need to be a pro player , if used to tekken you punish eddy mashers easily and rarely loose to them . If anything he's so predictable at one point , so one trick pony , and quite frankly so widely disliked , that a True eddie/christie/Tiger play trying to truly master him , will have the hardest time You can't mash your way like that in tekken , it's a myth
Forget this nobody review IGN gave it a 8.8. Better than a 7.5 they gave Tekken.
this game has improved from its previous interaction, which it was almost 7 years ago, however, nitpicking little things and lower the score to absurd numbers is just BIASED, UMvsC3 its a button smasher, the game is broken yet it gets great reviews/sales. Samething with mortalkombat, i really enjoy that game but DoA5 takes the crown with the fighting mechanics.
"Absurd numbers"? 81/100 is an "absurd" score?
To me, the real big flaw with DOA 5 was the Power Blow because the series obviously took pride in it's non-stop fighting. It feels more like a overpowered cut scene that interrupts the flow of combat which was great in Street Fighter 4 mind you but felt unnecessary in this fighting series. It's nice they FINALLY sped up Tina Armstrong.
