Why Minecraft Is The Most Important Game Of The Decade

EDGE- For some time, I’ve wanted to write down my thoughts and reactions to Minecraft, but for the most part I felt it wasn’t necessary. I felt people already understood why Minecraft was such a wonderful and important game, and that the reasons why I think it is great were fairly common. Recently, however, while having dinner with some friends, I was surprised when one of them expressed appreciation for Minecraft, but then followed it by saying that he didn’t really understand what it was that made it so enthralling.

I also love Minecraft. I think that it is a gaming masterpiece. It is a landmark videogame that has transformed the way we think about games, and I suspect that over time it will prove itself to be at least as important to the history of game development as GTAIII. (Minecraft, PC, Xbox 360)

I enjoy the random-generated terrain and being able to find fantastic vistas in addition to being able to build anything and pretty much go anywhere.

Minecraft has broken through very well, and I love it.

I'd rather play LittleBigPlanet, but that's just me...

PC version with Tekkit = win anything else :/.

That's interesting, because I'm... only moderately interested. You'd think a game of the decade would instill more desire than that.

Perhaps if it came to the PS3 or Vita you'd be interested. Especially if it originated as an exclusive for them. Funny how that works.

Because maybe not every game is for you but for the majority it is very obvious this game is extremely popular. But of course being in your own personal little world you can't seem to grasp that.

Another comment from you that lacks substance, doesn't have any points or reasons. And yet you TRIED to call me out in another article saying the same thing.

It was a good attempt but it is so easy to reverse anything you try and throw at me because well, you're not all there in the head.

Don't worry Ben_Grimm, he treats this place like it's his daily diary who feels it's his need to respond to every topic and monitor all the comments. Just be thankful he's down to 1 bubble.

He's just upset the game is not playable on his favorite systems yet. The game is hugely popular and very addicting. Of course the more popular something is the more scrutiny it gets.

It's a good win for an underdog game that has become a cult hit.

It gives hope to the average gaming company that doesn't have the massive funding or publisher status to get out there like other companies can.

Minecraft, its so boring its fun :D

I like minecraft but I can never find a server I like and playing offline by my self is boring. I've stop playing for a while now, I feel like unless I want to run up my internet bill hosting a server i'll never get the experiance I want. I use to like the server minecraft heros or something which I loved before they screwed it up and restarted the server from scratch.

I remember running a server with a couple friends...it wasn't bad for a while, it just drifted away though haha.

fun burning your friends shit down or playing pranks most likely :D, co-op makes a game and gives it memories :P
Getowned  +   656d ago
I agree, lol I blew up my friends X-ray machine and he was so pissed XD. and I filled another friends house with dirt, it didn't destroy anything but it annoyed him XD good times.

I played with a friend again at times and the server was always something new :/ i hated losing something i worked so hard on just to be changed to a new server >.< but yeah :p burning stuff down or blowing it up (possibly backed up first, get the satisfaction of doing it) is just deliciously satisfying.

I'm with the crowd that preffers Little Big Planet. Not to take anything away from Minecraft I just think LBP is more important to creative gaming.
Ducky  +   656d ago
Minecraft has had a bigger impact on creative gaming than LBP so far. Though that might also have to do with it selling more units and thus being more popular.

Maybe in the long run LBP might have a greater influence. I certainly hope more console games in the future allow users to create their own content.

That's a good point, what I'm saying is before Minecraft there has been games with that premise but LBP took that concept and made it way deeper with its creation tools. People are making full games with the tools MM has given them.
