The Problem with Sequels

gamrReview's Tom Hunt: "There are people, like yours truly, who want brand new experiences, with new and exciting worlds and settings, but that - in today's market - is incredibly hard to find. The summer games drought has ended, but when you look forward to the Christmas holiday releases I kind of wish we were still in it. Every other game coming out has a number hanging off the end of its title like an infected limb: FIFA 13, Dead or Alive 5, Assassin’s Creed 3, Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, FarCry 3, Resident Evil 6, and the list goes on." (Dev, Far Cry 3, Industry, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, PS3, PSP, Resident Evil 6, Xbox 360)

"Back in 2008, when Metal Gear Solid 4 was released, folks assumed this would be the end of the sneaky stealth Metal Gear Solid franchise."

No they did not, they assumed it would be the end of Solid Snake chapter, as in he has nothing left to do after MGS4.
Plus I think what's been shown with MGS:GZ, it looks like it has improved a lot. From what was shown and said at the showing, it's literally a GTA style MGS game. Can hijack cars, travel anywhere you want, call in copters, ect ect.
Far more than what could be done in past MGS titles

Anyway, his argument is that gamers want something new, which is true. But we have been getting tons of new IP's. Beside the open world of sleeping Dog, which isn't an exclusive to GTA, I did not feel that it was even a rip-off of GTA. Is Saint Row: The Third a GTA Rip-ff? I would certainly say not

Also with PS-All Star. If you've actually played the Beta, it feels nothing like Smash though does look like it. I wouldn't say it's a direct rip-off, I mean to say that a genre of such belongs to Nintendo is also laughable. It is one, but at the same time it isn't a rip-off.

ppl don't know what they want. they complain on blogs and forums about sequel and spinoff our the want something new. the sad thing is that there have been plenty of new ips this Gen that were new and fresh, most of them flop cause of very lil support from gamers costing Publishers resulting taking lil risk on new ips

Good sequels improve and expand from its predecessors. Just wait for GTA 5 and mgs:gz.
