inFAMOUS 2 – Review | TheGamersChallenge

I was happy to get my hands on inFAMOUS 2, I really enjoyed the first game and the birth of a super hero/villain it depicted. Sucker Punch made a fine effort on the last game with a good idea, decent story and smooth game play. With any sequel the stakes are set higher than before and I’m happy to say Sucker Punch rose above and beyond to bring us another fine game.

How the funk does this get approved? A no-name website posts a review of a game released over year ago and it makes front page? ...wow.

I'm not dissing or doubting the quality of the review itself, just merely questioning it's relevance.

OhMyGandhi1975d ago

I haven't had the chance to play it...
what's your point?

ThatEnglishDude1975d ago (Edited 1975d ago )

It just seems incredibly pointless going to the trouble of writing a review for a game released over a year ago. Anyone who wants to play it would have already, and if they haven't - they already have a shit ton of reviews they can read.

You haven't played it yet? Fine. Go read the hundreds of other reviews posted on the internet. By your logic, why not write a review for Metal Gear Solid 4? Or better yet, the original Tomb Raider or Final Fantasy VII...just in case someone may not have played it yet. I get so sick and tired of seeing articles on this site that simply don't belong here. Again, I'm not bashing the author or the review itself, but it simply doesn't need to be posted on this site.

This is a site for news, original articles and reviews. RELEVANT reviews. Yes, it IS a review, but again - IT'S OVER A YEAR OLD. Why even write it in the first place? Do you see where I'm coming from?

CalvinKlein1975d ago

Im sure you wuoldnt care if it was a 10 tho right.

Reverent1975d ago (Edited 1975d ago )

Well the reviewer gave it a respectable 4/5 so I really doubt he had a problem with the rating itself.

I agree that the review is a little pointless at this time, but he could have made his comment much less offensive about it.

HebrewHammer1975d ago

Games can get a 10 from a point scale maximum of 5?

@ ThatEnglishDude

it sounds like a personal attack against the site, did an article you write not get enough attention or what? or do you know the authors on the site?

I read old reviews of games all the time, from wherever I get them. Especially games I've played, it's nice to remember an awesome game you maybe have played on previous generation of consoles. Just a few days ago, I read a few random Wind Waker reviews and Metroid Prime reviews, as well as a couple MGS4 reviews, because it brings back awesome memories of an experience, and may even persuade me to go back and play them again.

There's a reason why search engines exist within most game related websites...

ThatEnglishDude1975d ago (Edited 1975d ago )

I am not going to take back what I said, but I truly don't mean anything bad toward the site. I do not know the authors, nor do I ever claim to. I'm simply stating that for THIS site, there's no need to post an old game review. Especially as it looks as though it's a newish site, it just comes off as looking for hits. I've written articles for this site before, quite a few in fact that have gone to the front page and have received rather well, but they've all been far more relevant in the context of when the game in question was released.

I understand if someone is doing a retro review or something of similar nature, looking back at the impact of some older titles. I suppose looking back, my examples of reviewing Final Fantasy VII and Tomb Raider were pretty bad as one could review it with a nostalgic twist. But would you approve a review of say...Fallout 3? No, you wouldn't. Why? Because again, everyone who wants to play it would have by now and if they want to read a review for nostalgic sake - they'd pick one from the many hundreds of reviews that are still available with a simple search. It's not as if this review is a look back at inFamous 2, it's not in retrospective, it's written as a NEW review.

I actually AGREE with you about reading older reviews bringing back nostalgic memories of games past. But like you rightly pointed out, that's what search engines are for. You can use it to find reviews for older games, which completely defeats the point of posting another one. But my question still stands, why would you post a review of an old game when a simply search for 'inFamous 2 Review' would generate MORE than enough results? The game has been reviewed to death, we don't need another one clogging up the front page of this site, burying much more relevant and pushing down reviews of far newer games. I don't really think you offered a good argument. In fact, what you said goes hand in hand for what I'm trying to convey. Those who disagree I think are simply missing my point. I'm not questioning the quality of the review, in fact it's actually rather well written, I'm simply stating that to be submitted onto N4G.com simply comes off as a waste of time and an attempt to look for some cheap hits.

@CalvinKlein, Wow, talk about missing the point. I couldn't give a shiny shite if the game was given a suspicious '10 out of 5' or if they gave it a zero. I have the game myself, and quite like it - not that that's any concern of yours. Nor is it the issue I have with this article.

I think people just need to put things into perspective when it comes to posting on this site. Once again, like you said - 'there's a reason why search engines exist within most game related websites...' Yes, so we don't need to keep reviewing it long after the games release.

nextbigname1975d ago

ThatEnglishDude, you're correct - it's not as relevant as the review for any recently released game would have been, BUT - is there a rule that you CAN'T post a review of a game that has been released a year ago, two years ago, 10 years ago, whatever? NO! So wtf is the problem? If you're not interested, then move on. Maybe someone else would be interested.

ThatEnglishDude1975d ago (Edited 1975d ago )

Actually, yes there is:
http://n4g.com/site/newsgui...

"Posting Reviews
When posting reviews of a product, movie or video game make sure the product is STILL NEW and of interest to the community..."

Good enough for you? Christ, does anyone even read guidelines anymore? I'm just trying to look out for this site and I don't want to see it become a dumping ground for new sites to post their articles of games that no one is even talking about anymore, simply to get hits - while burying more relevant news in the process.

PirateThom1975d ago

I get what you're saying, but this may still be of relevence to people. Remember the inFamous collectionwas just released last month and there's a new PS3 model and people may be wondering about past titles to pick up with their new PS3.

I dunno, it's not really that big a deal.

nextbigname1974d ago

What is "STILL NEW"? I've never played inFamous 2, some people might not have heard of inFamous 2, so for them it is STILL NEW. This is not an indication of how old the review can be, unless the certain time frames are mentioned.
